It was sold out for seven straight games with an awesome atmosphere and high level play on the court. Here we breakdown the prospects at the event with Highland Shootout: 2021 Missouri Evaluations!
Yaya Keita (Desmet, MO – 2021)
At 6’9” Keita has a grown man’s body already as a junior in high school. From a physical standpoint he will be ready to go on day one in college. Offensively his best moves came on a powerful spin on the block and a put back on the glass. Dropped a couple passes. Like what he brings to the table as a rebounder with his ability to grab balls in traffic. Defensively he is a shot blocker and has pretty good mobility for his strength. Keita had 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Still developing, but has high-major potential for sure.
Sekou Gassama (Desmet, MO – 2021)
Gassama is a little taller, but not quite as strong as Keita. He wasn’t very involved on the offensive end only taking one shot which he missed. Grabbed three defensive rebounds and blocked a couple shots. Very raw post that has high-major upside, but still needs quite a bit of development.
Thomas Redmond (Desmet, MO – 2021)
Redmond is a wing that opened our eyes with the way he shot it from three going 3-6 from beyond the arc. Also can connect from mid-range. Tough and gritty player that can also pass it well for a wing. He had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 dimes.
Aaron Brady (Trinity Catholic, MO – 2021)
Brady was a sparkplug for Trinity in the first half against Mehlville. The point guard displayed quickness of the bounce and hit a pair of threes. Provided scoring coming off the bench for 10 points.
Jaden Winfield (Chaminade, MO – 2021)
We liked what Winfield brought to the table over the summer and fall. Connected on a pair of threes along with a turnaround fadeaway. Scoring potential at the two guard spot at the college level. Should see his role expand next season with the graduation of the three starting Chaminade wings.
Nick Kern (Vashon, MO – 2021)
Kern is a lanky wing that has a projectable frame. Brings athleticism and scoring pop to the table. Slippery handles being able to get to the cup off the bounce. Finishes well in transition. Quality mid-range shooter. Showcased more of an all-around game than we had seen before. He rebounded from his wing spot on the defensive end, swatted a pair of shots, and made several quick passes on the fly. He had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists.
Recko Bailey (Vashon, MO – 2021)
Bailey is a pass first point guard that uses his speed in the open floor and vision to get others involved. Also a pesky perimeter defender with active hands. He had 2 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Chevalier Brenson (CBC, MO – 2021)
Brenson is a power five wide receiver prospect, but on the hardwood he was very impactful for CBC. The powerfully built forward was a force in the paint and on the boards with his high energy. Even hit 2-3 from beyond the arc which was surprising. He had 12 points (4-5 FG) and 6 rebounds.
