It was sold out for seven straight games with an awesome atmosphere and high level play on the court. Here we breakdown the prospects at the event with Highland Shootout: 2020 Missouri Evaluations!
Coban Porter (Father Tolton, MO – 2020)
Porter is a 6’4” shooting guard that has nice strength on the wing. He struggled shooting it from the perimeter, but managed to get to the foul line and on the offensive glass for 8 points (2-9 FG) and 9 rebounds.
Nathan Schwartze (Father Tolton, MO – 2020)
This two guard was also effective getting on the glass against a smaller Mater Dei squad from his guard spot. Quality mid-range shooter that can also use his power to score in the paint. Went for 9 points and 6 rebounds.
Davion Bradford (Mehlville, MO – 2020)
Bradford was in the best shape of his career and his play showed it. The 7’0” Kansas State commit came out aggressive and stayed in that mindset the entire day. In his head to head matchup with Ryan Kalkbrenner he used his advantage in physical strength to dominant early. Made powerful moves on the low block along with combination moves for scores. Garnered deep post position and finished with strength including a couple of powerful jams. Very good area rebounder. He had 23 points (9-12 FG) and 9 rebounds.
Lamontay Daughtery (Mehlville, MO – 2020)
Daughtery made an early call to go the JUCO route as he is headed to Mineral Area. This was about as good as we have seen the wing in a high school setting. He has size at 6’6” and length to be a two way player. Displayed a feathery touch on his jumper drilling multiple along with some deep twos. His pull up game was on point. Showed he could put it on the deck and get to the rim as well. Quality rebounder that contributed on both ends. Went for 19 points and 12 rebounds. Should definitely be a D1 guy after a couple years at a JUCO.
Dylan Branson (Mehlville, MO – 2020)
Branson is a thick wing that isn’t the greatest athlete, but has a solid skill set. Didn’t shoot it as well as he usually does from deep going 0-5 from distance. The two areas I thought he did show well were passing and on the glass. As a distributor he made crisp dishes on the money that led to points. Got on the glass at a high clip on the defensive end. Also blocked three shots. Went for 10 points (4-17 FG), 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals.
King Waller (Mehlville, MO – 2020)
Waller is a name we didn’t know much about coming into the game. Liked what he brought to the table at the two guard spot. Waller is a sound shooter from three going 3-4 from there. Tough kid that can shoot it. Went for 15 points (6-10 FG), 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Small college late bloomer.
Ryan Kalkbrenner (Trinity Catholic, MO – 2020)
Kalkbrenner is a 7’0” center that is on the thinner side which hurt him in his matchup with the thicker Bradford. Really struggled in the first half, but in the second half he showed glimpses of why he is considered a high-level prospect that is headed to Creighton. Shot blocking is his forte and he recorded four of them in this game. Also cleared the defensive glass well. Offensively he hit one three for his only bucket of the night finishing with 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Rashad Weekly-McDaniels (Trinity Catholic, MO – 2020)
This Central Michigan commit was outstanding against Mehlville. Powerful bowling ball guard that has a super high motor for a guard. Weekly-McDaniels shot it about as well as we have seen him going 5-10 from three point range including drilling several heat check ones. Connected both pulling up and off the bounce. Also made regular trips to the foul line using his strength in the paint to draw contact on drives to the hoop. High level passer that does it with flair. Fun player to watch. He had 36 points (11-25 FG) and 5 dimes.
Terrell Rush (Trinity Catholic, MO – 2020)
Rush is a Miami (OH) football commit that looked pretty good on the hardwood for Trinity. Really good wing rebounder that hit one three and scored in the lane for his 15 points along with 10 rebounds.
Michael Skoff (Desmet, MO – 2020)
Skoff is a gritty small college wing prospect that had a huge scoring day for Desmet. The 6’5” small forward hit a few jumpers, but was most adept using his toughness scoring and slashing for buckets. Moves well without the ball getting scores on backcuts. Went for 20 points (8-15 FG) and 6 rebounds.
Luke Kasbuke (Chaminade, MO – 2020)
It was an unusual night for the Kansas State commit. He is one of the truly elite shooters in the Midwest. Kasbuke could not find the feel from deep going 0-9 from beyond the arc. Even struggled at the charity stripe. What he did do well was score on tough drives and post up smaller defenders. Scored much better inside the arc than outside. Went for 15 points (7-21 FG).
Harrison Vickers (Chaminade, MO – 2020)
Vickers is a wing with wiry strength that plays hard. Very inconsistent shooter from three only going 1-5 from beyond the arc. Brings energy on the glass and a high activity level. The lefty shooting guard would be a nice find at the small college level. He had 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Matteus Case (Chaminade, MO – 2020)
Case has size at 6’5” with quality strength. Was at his best attacking off a live dribble and using his athleticism in the paint for scores. He had 7 points and 3 assists.
Cam’Ron Fletcher (Vashon, MO – 2020)
Fletcher got off to a slow start, but in the second half the Kentucky commit played like a blue blood level player. The thing that stood out most to us was his size and how aggressive he was moving without the ball. Caught it on the move numerous times for buckets. Inside the arc he only missed one shot all night long. Athleticism and ability to finish with either hand maneuvering the ball at the rim with his long arms were impressive. Ran the floor hard in transition. Flew in for several big offensive rebounds. Hit one pick and pop three. Fletcher had 26 points (10-14 FG) and 9 rebounds.
Phillip Russell (Vashon, MO – 2020)
Russell is headed to SEMO next season and they certainly got themselves a good one! The point guard can flat out shoot the rock from three as he went 7-9 from distance in his 31 point performance. Russell is a big time perimeter shooter and when he gets in a zone like he was Saturday is one of the premier shot makers in the Midwest from the lead guard spot. Speed with the ball in his hands and is a dynamic playmaker as a distributor. Russell had 31 points and 6 dimes.
Kobe Clark (Vashon, MO – 2020)
Clark has had some buzz early in the season. At 6’7” with good length he has the physical tools for the next level along with plus athleticism. He didn’t do one thing that particularly jumped off the floor, but it was his all-around game that left an overall positive impression. Mid-range jumper, scoop shot, was active on the defensive end, contributed on the glass, and made a few nice passes. Stuffed the stat sheet for 11 points (5-11 FG), 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Caleb Love (CBC, MO – 2020)
In the first half Love was absolutely sensational. He had several dunks including a huge windmill that had the crowd going nuts! Got to the rim off the bounce including splitting double teams and finishing with his off hand. There were several pro moves off the dribble that made us say “wow” during the game. The North Carolina commit is also going to bring quality passing to Chapel Hill with his ability to find teammates on the move with bullet passes. He had 19 points (9-22 FG) and 4 assists.
