Trey Alexander was the star of the show. Cool under pressure, locked in for all 32 minutes, and never missing a beat, his game has grown in a small way with each time I have seen him play. Tuesday night, his athleticism was on full display with three blocks and two steals, creating multiple opportunities from the Chargers to score in transition. Alexander pointed to his mid-range jumper in my interview with him postgame. “Man, it’s all Kobe man. You don’t understand how much of his film of his me and my dad have sat down and watched.” Whether it be the film breakdown or hours in the gym, Alexander has made his mid-range shot a key aspect of his game.
From the tip, it was obvious that Jake Jennings was going to carry a majority of OCS’s offensive responsibility. Whether it be as a ball-handler, crashing the glass or stepping outside the arc to knock down a three, Jennings was willing to do what was best for his squad, buying into his team’s gameplan and running with it. With a tight in-and-out dribble, Jennings navigated Heritage Hall’s 2-2-1 press with ease and created opportunities for his teammates to score in the paint. His comfortability with the ball in his hand made it apparent to all that he put in the time to get his game to the point it is now. A guard with good natural instincts with the ball is hard to find and Jennings made his case for being one of the few with that ability tonight. It would be a good idea to keep an eye on Jennings as his season progresses.
