DeSales found themselves struggling to start the game and went into halftime down 10 points and only scoring 18 points as a team. In the second half, DeSales found the basket as they hit four 3s in the 3rd Quarter. DeSales’ length down-low made things difficult for the Butler Bears to find any baskets in the 2nd half. They still managed to keep this game tight, they just came up short. DeSales upsets Butler, 55-51.
Four Takeaways
Sekou Kalle (DeSales)
The 6 foot 10 junior is an absolute monster. He definitely has room to grow his offensive game. He needs to work on his ball control in the post and his foot work. He works on that, then he becomes a house-hold name not only in the state but in the nation. He is currently ranked as a 3-star according to 247sports. He has great potential as a big man. He finished the game with 15 points and 14 rebounds. He is a monster on the glass. Kalle has a bright future whether he decided to stay at DeSales for his senior year or go elsewhere.
Cam Underwood (Butler)
Cam had a really solid game against DeSales. He finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds. The senior forward is definitely the leader for this Butler team. He scored the first 6 points of the game for the Bears. He has great ability to drive in the lane and finish under the basket. He is very aggressive down-low as he is jumping high for rebounds or using his body to post-up the defender. Didn’t get to see a whole lot of his mid-range or 3-point jumper but his inside game was really fun to watch. All of his points came inside the paint or at the free throw line. Underwood is a great D-II prospect.
DeSales’ 3-Point Shooting
DeSales hit 7 threes in this game. All of them came in the 2nd half. They were running some really great stuff to get guys open from behind the arc. Eduardo Ramirez for DeSales hit 3 threes himself. I believe all of them were corner threes that were set up beautifully by his teammates. The big man Sekou Kalle even made a three in the 4th Quarter. A big man with nice touch outside of the paint is what this game is going towards. If he can become consistent with that shot, then that’ll be a problem for opponents. It’ll also have college coaches smiling.
3rd Quarter Drama
In the 3rd Quarter, tensions got hot. There was a loose ball that had bodies flying everywhere to grab the ball. Butler’s Turrell Cleaves Jr. and DeSales’ Sekou Kalle got in each other’s faces and did a little talking. Both of the players received technical fouls and their coaches immediately sat them on the bench to give them a talk. Turrell Cleaves is one of the top sophomores in the state but he only managed to see about 10 minutes in this game. After the altercation, Butler’s head coach decided to not put Cleaves back in the game. DeSales found themselves down 10 at half but fought their way back after all of the physical play and the distractions. Big win for DeSales and Head Coach Damien Anderson.
