Some of these players have been mentioned before, but several are new to the scene and should be appearing more often. This first part takes a look at players in the 2022 class mostly. Part two will look more into the 2021 class.
Mason Black – Falcon (2022)
Mason has good size for a guard at 6’3, he is currently averaging: 17.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG. He has scored double figures in all nine games to start the season, with 28 points being his season high in a loss against Fruita Monument. He does most of his scoring from inside the three-point arc, shooting fifty-nine percent so far on the season from two-point range (55/93). He is also shooting seventy-eight percent from the charity strip to start the year, he can stretch the defense as well and knock down a long range shot, but that will be the next step in growing his game going forward. As a guard he does a nice job of attacking the glass on both ends of the court. His 17.2 PPG is a team leading.
Tarrance Austin – Pueblo South (2022)
Tarrance is off to a strong start to his sophomore year, he is averaging: 16.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.4 APG, 2.5 SPG to build off a strong freshmen year in which he played in all 24 games for Pueblo South averaging 8.5 PPG. He does most of his work from inside the arc but can also stretch the floor and keep the defender guessing. Pueblo South is a very young team with only two seniors on their roster, the second leading scorer behind Tarrance this year is freshmen Ray Aragon who is averaging 10.5 PPG. Tarrance dropped a season high of 32 in a loss to Mesa Ridge earlier this year, he also had five rebounds, six assists, and five steals in that game which goes to show the type of player he is. He does a little but bit of everything for Pueblo South, it will be fun to watch this team grow.
Jordan Reed – Manual (2022)
Jordan saw action in sixteen varsity games as a freshmen last year and that is certainly showing as he is off to a strong sophomore season. He is currently averaging: 13.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.1 APG which ranks second on the team behind standout senior Jaden Stoffel. Jordan has good size at 6’2 and is able to impact the game in a verity of different ways, he shoots fifty-one percent from inside the three-point arc. He is a smart guard who is able to get to his spots on the floor, making the right decision out of it. It will be fun to watch Jordan grow, he has a high potential.
Jaeton Hackley – Douglas County (2022)
Jaeton is another player who saw a lot of varsity action as a freshmen for Douglas County and that is starting to pay off here in his sophomore season were he is currently averaging: 12.8 PPG, 3.6 APG, 2.5 RPG, 2.3 SPG. His 12.8 PPG ranks second on the team, helping them to a 8-3 record to start the season. He had one of his best games yet last week in a win against Liberty, he scored a season high 20 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jaeton is shooting thirty-five percent from long range to start the season, making at least one three or more in eight of the eleven games. Douglas County will face off against George Washington in what should be a good game tomorrow at GW at 7:00 P.M.
Hugo Veloso – Fort Collins (2022)
Hugo played in 23 games for Fort Collins as a freshman, he is having a great start to his sophomore year were he is averaging: 11.2 PPG, 2.9 APG, 2.5 RPG. His 11.2 PPG leads the team to start the year, he is shooting thirty-four percent (16/47) from three-point range. He has scored double figures in seven of their eleven games so far, with 19 points being his current season high coming in a one point win against Fruita Monument in their last game before the holiday break. He would follow that performance up with another strong one in their first game back post break against Pomona. He finished that game with 18 points shooting four of nine from distance.
Ben Hageman – Windsor – (2021)
Ben is averaging: 14.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.5 SPG for Windsor so far on the season. He has scored double figures in nine out of their ten games, to help them to a 6-4 record. His season high is 21 which he has hit twice, he does the majority of his work from inside the three-point arc, shooting sixty-seven percent from two-point range on over eighty attempts so far.
