IOWA CITY -- An upstart City High team held off Western Dubuque on Tuesday night, escaping with a 51-48 home win.

City led by as many as 16 points in the first half, as their athleticism overwhelmed the Bobcats in the first 16 minutes. But turnovers, poor shot selection and missed free throws kept the door open, allowing Western Dubuque to climb back into it. With 4 seconds left, the Little Hawks missed a pair of free throws (their fourth and fifth consecutive missed freebies, including three straight front-end misses), and Bobcat forward Dylan Johnson got off a solid look at a 3 that would've sent the game to overtime.
