Heading into 2020 there are still several Seniors looking for their collegiate homes. Here’s a quick rundown of the best available 2020s in Southern and Eastern Kentucky. For our purposes, Northern Kentucky includes schools from the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Regions.
Matt Cromer, South Laurel – One of the top available Seniors in the state regardless of location, Cromer is having a big Senior season. He’s averaging 24 points per game with 48/37/84 shooting splits and averaging a team high 8 rebounds per game.
Riley Bodner, Lincoln County – One of the best defenders on the list is also the tallest. At 6’8, Bodner is the centerpiece of the Lincoln County defense that is currently the second best in the state as far as allowing points per game. Riley is a solid offensive player and above average passer.
Jabari Kyle, Middlesboro – Kyle had a breakout season on the football field and could end up going that route for college. On the hardwood, Jabari is capable of beating about any defender off the dribble but he’s going to have to be a better shooter from range to improve his overall offensive efficiency.
Matthew Taylor, Corbin – Taylor recently scored his 1,000th career point and is having a really good Senior season, averaging 20 points and 6 rebounds per game. Matthew has a very high basketball IQ and can play with the ball in his hands or as a wing.
Trey Brock, Middlesboro – The best athlete on this list, Brock is having a tremendous Senior season. Trey is averaging 17 points and 5 rebounds per game while putting up great shooting numbers including 86% from the FT line while making 4 per game.
Brett Norvell, South Laurel – Brett has great size at 6’5 and definitely passes the eye test but his shooting numbers have taken a hit this season after he was a very efficient scorer last season. He should definitely play at the next level but his still will rise if he can shoot the ball better in 2020.
Kaelin Drakeford, Mercer County – One of the top Seniors in the 12th is also a two sport star who could choose to play football in college. As a basketball player, Kaelin has great size at 6’4 and is a good athlete who excels at getting to the free throw line.
Rodrell Dryden, Greenup County – Dryden is at his 3rd school in 2 years but he is having a huge statistical season for Greenup. 20.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game is impressive and if Rodrell can continue to put up these huge stats, coaches will have to take notice.
Nick Keeton, Paintsville – One of the hardest workers in the Senior class, Keeton maximizes his abilities by playing with a relentless motor. Keeton is a fantastic rebounder and made a ton of free throws in the game I watched last week.
Tyler Maynard, Lawrence County – Maynard is having another strong season, averaging 21 points and 7 rebounds per game this year. Tyler has been a big scorer for multiple seasons now and is likely to play small college basketball at the next level.
Thomas Spencer, Wayne County – Coming off his Kentucky Junior All-Star selection, Spencer is having a big Senior year. He’s leading Wayne in scoring and rebounding. While Thomas has recently garnered attention as a football recruit, he could play either sport at the next level.
Cole Kelley, North Laurel – Averaging a team high 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a veteran presence for a young North Laurel team, Kelley is a good shooter, making 43% of his attempts from behind the arc.
Taylor Spurlock, Harlan County – One of the more unique players on this list thanks to his 6’7 frame and guard skills, Spurlock could be a scholarship player at the next level. With an impressive 30 ACT score, Taylor could be a really good D3 player at the next level.
