It was a fast paced game filled with lots of emotion and confrontations. The seriousness of the longstanding rivalry was reflected in the aggressive demeanor of the athletes throughout the game. After a hard fought back and forth, Pickens County eventually came out on top (42-37). These are 5 players who ultimately swayed and determined the outcome of the game.
Javion McCrary, PG (Pickens County)
The sophomore guard accounted for half of his team’s points. Every time the opponent came close, McCrary fired back to silence the home crowd. His full package was on display. He wowed the crowd with sharp one on one moves and numerous three-point plays at the rim. He showed the maturity to manage the game at the times when emotions were running high and his team started to lose control. Still needs to work on his decision making in the passing aspect of the game, but showed the ability to quickly learn from his mistakes. After taking another look at him, it is without a doubt that he should be ranked top 10 in Alabama’s class of 2022.
Matthew Clark, G/F (Aliceville)
The first thing that stood out about the senior forward was his athletic ability. Standing at 6’4″ with a lengthy wingspan and nice size, he was able to impact the game in many ways. Needs to improve his jump-shot, but has a solid mid-range game. Very strong in the paint and battles for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Kept his team in the game with his ability to rise over defenders on the offensive glass. A little rough around the edges but has the tools to eventually develop into a contributor for a college program.
Jawan Petty, SG (Pickens County)
The senior guard is smooth in everything he does. Has a nice offensive game. Good handles to go along with a nice pull-up. Can also hit the outside shot and has range out beyond the 3pt line. Has a slim frame but what he lacks in strength, he makes up for it with his length. Showed the ability to take smaller opponents to the post. Has a smooth fade-away jumper in the post over the right shoulder. Needs to work on different ways he can affect the game when he doesn’t have the ball or when his shot is not falling. A player with loads of talent who could benefit from taking the JUCO route first to further develop his body and skills.
Dee Doss, PG (Pickens County)
Point guard with nice size and speed in the open court. Very long in stature at the PG spot. He is good at using his wingspan to get in the passing lanes. Needs to work on his floater in the lane to avoid player control fouls. Doesn’t mind sacrificing his body on defense. Very streaky with range out to the three. Has good vision and puts his teammates in position to score easily. Has a great feel for the game. Under the radar senior who could be developed into a good player after a stint at the JUCO level.
Reytavious Pittman, CG (Aliceville)
This player’s game is centered around his energy and effort. He is relentless in his pursuit of the ball on the offensive and defensive end. Kept his team in the game with his hustle, offensive rebounding, and big-time plays. Excels in the open court and he is at his best when the game is being played at a fast pace.
