1. McKenzie (16-0)
December Rank: 1
Peak: 1
McKenzie and Class A Mr. Basketball Candidate Lucas King are hungry for a state championship with a cohesive senior class. Nobody is touching the Rebels in the regular season. They are 10 wins away from a 26-0 perfect regular season.
2. Booker T. Washington (12-3)
December Rank: 3
Peak: 2
Booker T. smacked the fearless Whitehaven Tigers, 66-56. Their first two losses were to the #1 team in Class AAA, Whitehaven High. “Booker T’s guards are good,” said PrepHoopsTN Writer Courtney Asher Smith. Wins over Douglass, White Station, MAHS, and Maplewood in addition to that conquering of Whitehaven in their third go of it.
J.C. Johnson is an incredible guard, one of the best in the city.
3. Madison Academic (15-2)
December Rank: 2
Peak: 2
Crockett County clipped Madison Academic, 56-54 a week ago. Wins over South Gibson (their second) and Peabody are nice, but it is impossible to remain ahead of Booker T. Washington while losing to anybody in Class A. Hub City Classic Champions! From 2015 to 2018, the Mustangs won a combined 11 games. This is a new day. In the last week alone Madison Academic defeated three Class AA teams, two of them among the best in Region 7AA: South Gibson, Crockett County. James Anderson (Madison Academic) averaged 19 ppg during the the HUB City Classic. He earned Hub City Classic MVP.

4. Douglass (8-4)
December Rank: 5
Peak: 4
Douglass High made their one and only TSSAA State Tournament appearance in 2018 with Antavious Buford, Martico Washington, and Devyn Payne. The ultimately fell to State Champions Loretto in the Championship Game. Five of the Red Devils’ final games will be away from 3240 Mount Olive Road.
5. Fayetteville (12-2, 1-0)
December Rank: 6
Peak: 5
Nobody in Tennessee can beat Fayetteville High School…right? Losses to Madison Academy and Ardmore, both schools in Alabama, don’t sour the fantastic season of FHS thus far. It deserves mention that FHS is replacing Was tabbed the the District 8A Tournament MVP Julius Dixon. They are far from home free though. In the coming month+ FHS will meet Mt. Pleasant twice and Eagleville twice.
Fayetteville leaped into the Top 10 with their Summertown Christmas Classic title.
6. MAHS (13-2)
December Rank: 7
Peak: 6
Loss to Booker T. Washington earlier in the month. Captured the best win of any Class A team all season (win over former Class AA PrepHoopsTN #1). “MAHS should crack the top 10,” injected Courtney Asher Smith. The Lions are 8-4 and are coming off a nice win over Fayette Ware without David Dixon.

7. Clay County (16-2)
December Rank: 8
Peak: 7
8. Monterey (13-4, 3-2)
December Rank: 4
Peak: 3
White County and Gordonsville picked up wins over MHS in the last 10 days. The WIldcats handled Clarkrange and rest 4th in District 6A. King of the Smokies Christmas Classic Champions. Played three current or former Top 10 teams mid-December (Red Boiling Springs, Clay County, Pickett County). Clay County narrowly dispatched of Monterey in that mid-December tussle.
9. Red Boiling Springs (15-6)
December Rank: 9
Peak: 8
Spearheaded by Mr. Basketball candidate Dalton Marsh. Dalton recently surpassed 2,000 career points.
10. Eagleville (11-4)
December Ranking: 10
Peak: 5
Community High (PrepHoopsTN #6 in AA) handed Eagleville two losses this season. Those losses do nothing to besmirch this team and Ryley McClaran is the kind of player every coach wishes they had for February and March.
