The Bluejays reclaim the top spot in the rankings after defeating Bismarck St. Mary’s 91-79 last week. Boden Skunberg was a stat-sheet stuffer in that one, scoring 21 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Carson Lamp led the way with 27 points and Brooks Carroll chipped in 18. That’s as good a trio as there is in the state.
Fargo Davies
Fargo Davies made quite a statement last week, destroying Devils Lake, 83-39. Cam Van Dam was the best player on the floor, going for 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals while Grayson Haman, Cole Hage and Owen Hektner all scored in double figures as well. The Eagles blew out Fargo South to end the week and move to 11-1 on the year. Ty Satter had 13 points and eight assists in that one.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs went 2-0 last week, beating Fargo North Tuesday before blowing the doors off Grand Forks Red River on Friday. Tyler Terhark had himself a week, going for 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the win over the Spartans and following it up with 23 points, eight rebounds and three assists against the Roughriders.
Bismarck
The Demons lost to Bismarck Legacy to start the week but ended it with a win over Bismarck Century. Bismarck is sitting at 9-3 on the year, back two games of Jamestown for tops in the conference. The Demons’ next three games will tell quite a story as they face Minot, Dickinson and Jamestown.
Dickinson
The Midgets earned a tough win over Mandan early in the week thanks in large part to yet another terrific performance from Jaiden Wright. The senior guard scored 18 points on 10 shots, grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists. Kobe Krenz led the way with 24 points to stay on a roll offensively too. Dickinson is right in the thick of things at the top of the WDA right now and has a hug five game stretch coming up against Bismarck, Bismarck Legacy, Bismarck Century, Jamestown and Mandan again.
Minot
Want evidence that the Magicians have the deepest team in the state? On a night where their top three scorers (Jaxon Gunville, Easton Larson and Deonte Martinez) combine to score 30 points on 36 shots, they still beat a ranked team on the road. Caden Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Darik Dissette scored nine points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Bismarck Century
The Patriots lost to Minot and Bismarck last week to drop to 6-6 on the year. Offense is just not coming easily for this group right now. Cade Feeney put up numbers in both losses but he’s got to do an awful lot. He had 28 of the team’s 57 points in the loss to the Magicians.
Mandan
The Braves split a pair of games last week, losing to Dickinson on Tuesday before earning a huge win over Minot on Friday. Jaxton Wiest is back and playing big minutes, and he makes everybody better. He scored nine points and had six assists in the win over the Magicians. Tyler Thilmony had another good week as well, and is now averaging better than nine points per game.
Grand Forks Red River
On something of a micro level, the Roughriders went 1-1 last week and took one on the chin against West Fargo Sheyenne. A 30-point loss is hard to explain even if it is to a team that is gunning for an EDC title. But the week was not without positives as the Roughriders welcomed back Will Obioha to the lineup. The 6-foot-5 junior wing missed the first 10 games with a knee injury but returned to score six points in the loss to the Mustangs. Winning the EDC is probably out of the realm of possibility at this point for the Roughriders, but Obioha raises the ceiling for this team in the postseason as he’s one of the best two-way players in the state.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers picked up a terrific win last week, beating Bismarck 66-59. They followed that up with a stinker of a loss to Bismarck St. Mary’s on Saturday to drop to 6-6 on the year. The Sabers have shown they are good enough to compete and beat anybody (and if they can get Nick Kupfer back, they’ll be even more dangerous) but are equally as capable of an offensive letdown.
