Continue ReadingChoctaw’s basketball team is a night-and-day difference from last season. Where they weren’t very competitive in most games last year, they’re highly competitive this year. As soon as they learn how to close out close games against elite teams, they’ll be very dangerous in Class 6A. In the Bishop McGuinness Classic, they lost the third-place game to Norman North due to a last-second shot.
There were two players for Choctaw that particularly stuck out on Friday: Anthony Bowen and Sean Franklin.
Bowen was the most athletic guy on the court on Friday, which is saying a lot considering they were playing Edmond Memorial that’s loaded with talent. It was perplexing as to why Choctaw didn’t have the ball in Bowen’s hands later in the game because every time he touched the ball something good came out of it. He scored a team-high 15 points, but only scored four in the fourth quarter in a close game.
Choctaw is 18th in class 6A, with a 4-7 record due to losses like these. A win against the No. 3 team in 6A would have been spectacular for them.
Sean Franklin was also serviceable for the Yellowjackets, scoring 10 points, but helping contain Memorial’s star player, Sean Pedulla to single-digits.
