Alva is a team that has talent but has also had some tough luck this season in 2A but regardless, there were a couple of players for the Goldbug’s that stuck out despite not winning a game in the tournament.
Alva lost the seventh-place game 78-65, but two players accounted for nearly half of the team’s points. Five-foot-eight senior guard Reece Martin and five-foot-11 guard Cole Hague combined for 30 points, purely off threes. The backcourt duo shot a combined 10-18 from three and were both responsible for many of their teammate’s points.
Martin served as Alva’s main shooter and playmaker, while Hague was the main ballhandler and more of a spot-up shooter.
Alva’s record may not reflect it, but come playoff time they won’t be an easy out for anybody. If they get hot, they can be a very lethal team and very difficult to contain.
