1. Millbrook Wildcats (5-0)
Last Rank: 1st (↔)
The Millbrook Wildcats still sit atop the Cap 7 standings at undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 record. They got their first win of the new year with a 95-73 victory over Sanderson on Jan. 7. Four players finished scoring in double figures in that one as Will Felton and Jalen McCoy finished with 19 points apiece. Unsigned senior Adam Carey also put up 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds at the point guard position. It’s hard to foresee this squad losing a game in Cap7 play. This week, they’ve got Broughton (Jan. 14) and Southeast Raleigh (Jan. 17).
2. Leesville Road (5-1)
Last Rank: 2nd (↔)
Leesville Road has won two more games in conference action over Southeast Raleigh and Enloe since the calendar has turned over to 2020. The Pride continue to lurk in the shadows of the Wildcats in the power rankings led by 2021 guard Carter Whitt. They’ve got solid contributions from 2020 guard Deon Daniels and 2021 guard Chase Hakerem. They’ve got Cardinal Gibbons on Jan. 17.
3. Sanderson Spartans (3-2)
Last Rank: 3rd (↔)
The Spartans have gone 1-1 since the last edition of power rankings with a win over Broughton and a loss to Millbrook in 2020. Kamon Green and Tylan Green are two seniors that have been on a tear this season for Sanderson, recently earning offers from Bluefield College. Kamon is averaging 17.8 points per game while Tylan is averaging 17.5 points per contest. They’ve got Southeast Raleigh on Jan. 14 and Enloe on Jan. 17, both on the road.
4. Cardinal Gibbons (2-3)
Last Rank: 6th (↑2)
Cardinal Gibbons has won two games in a row in Cap 7 play since starting off 0-3. They’ve gotten victories over Southeast Raleigh and Broughton this past week. Freshman Micah Jones scored 14 points against SE Raleigh and 13 points against Broughton. He’s a young player to watch alongside seniors Brady Whilden and Michael Boney. A matchup with Enloe on Jan. 14 should create some distance in the rankings with the result. They’ll also travel to Leesville Road on Jan. 17.
5. Enloe Eagles (2-3)
Last Rank: 4th (↑1)
The Eagles have dropped a spot since losing a game to Leesville Road this past week. They’re a competitive bunch with potential in sophomore Comeh Emoubor but they’ll need to find a way to turn it into wins in the new year. They’ve got Cardinal Gibbons (Jan. 14) and Sanderson (Jan. 17) coming up on the schedule this week.
6. Southeast Raleigh (0-4)
Last Rank: 5th (↓1)
The Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs remain winless in Cap 7 action, even with a 3-point loss to Enloe back on Dec. 19. They’re a group trying to find their identity and as they do, their first victory will be a bittersweet one. They host Sanderson (Jan. 14) and Millbrook (Jan. 17) this week in conference play.
7. Broughton Capitals (0-4)
Last Rank: 7th (↔)
The Capitals remain at the bottom of the Cap 7 power rankings as they’re another winless squad. The rebuild has been in full effect for Broughton this season as they hold just one victory on the 2019-20 season. In their most recent loss to Sanderson, they lost just 53-49. As they learn to compete, they’ll be a team to watch. They’ve got Millbrook on Jan. 14.
