Austin Garcia, Buckhorn: He really looked to shoot the ball from deep early in the game. He was a little shorter in comparison to his matchups, but played extremely good defense. When his matchup got a head of steam, he didn’t turn and run with him. Rather, he slid and cut off the offensive player on the block and used his quick hands to steal the ball.
Jalon Chapman, Buckhorn: He was a dominant figure the entire game. With less than a second left in the first half, he cut down the lane and finished the inbound lob with ease. He was an excellent “point-forward” able to secure the rebound on one end and push the pace and lead the fast break on the other end.
Evan Ward, Buckhorn: He was an extremely passionate player. What he lacked in physical stature, he made up in heart. He came off the bench and knew his role was to bring energy and intensity. One key possession in the third, he was down among the bigs battling for boards. He is extremely quick and has a very good first step. He needs to work on finishing with his left to amplify his game.
Tre Shackelford III, Austin: He did a little bit of everything for the Black Bears. He was smaller than most players on the court, but finished up at the rim and finished strong. During the third, he stepped in and took a tough charge, which is a skill most players are scared of. He had three offensive rebounds and kept possessions alive and even got himself a big time block late in the game.
Hunter Mitchell, Austin: At first glance, he looked like a big body with very little skill. But his big body and big presence helped him be effective on both the offensive and defensive boards. With his length he could easily contest and block shots. Although ineffective, he looked to step outside and shoot the top-of-the-key three pointer. If he continues to work on his long ball, he will be that much more dangerous to guard.
