Luis Avila 6’8 PF SECTA 2020 – Avila is a super skilled forward. He can step out and stretch the floor as well as put it down and create a shot for himself. He’s played his way into the rankings, with his production during his high school season, averaging nearly 14 per game.
Elijah Burney 5’9 PG Centennial 2023 – Burney is a talented freshman, currently playing on the freshmen team at Centennial. He is showing a tremendous IQ and a good feel for the game. Not every underclassman is going to make Varsity, however, Burney is showing how valuable playing time can be to development.
David Poole 5’10 PG Mojave 2023 – Poole is definitely a freshman to keep an eye on. He has played key varsity minutes for an improving Mojave squad. Quick penetrating PG. Poole recently had 9 points in a key victory for Mojave.
John Derrick 6’5 SF Foothill 2022 – I can’t put my finger on it but Derrick has something. Perhaps it’s the way he runs the floor or simply his 6’5 frame. Derrick is currently swinging from JV to Varsity. On teams not as deep as Foothill Derrick may play an even bigger role. As it is, he has shown tremendous potential throughout the season.
Sylis Gray 6’3 SF Clark 2022 – Gray has been a starter for Clark most of this season. I also had an opportunity to watch him play at WODE camp in the fall. The 6’3 sophomore has good perimeter skills and the ability to knock down shots in catch and shoot action.
Jalen Foy 6’5 PF Canyon Springs 2022 – Foy got on my radar, with his shooting. The stretch 4 excels at playing pick and pop basketball. He’s a starter, and contributing as a sophomore, and has had some solid games. Look for him to make an appearance in the next rankings.
Jaylen Berry 6’2 PG Basic 2021 (featured image) – Berry is a classic case of a guy playing himself onto the rankings. He has put together a marvelous season. Berry is a terrific two-way player that has helped Basic surpass its win total from the last two seasons combined.
Meshack Hawkins 6’0 SG Chaparral 2020 – “Shack” not being on the previous rankings was simply a case of being unknown. He has put together a tremendous season leading Chap in scoring and assist.
Kareem Rowe 6’6 PF McQueen 2020 – Rowe has put together an impressive senior season. Good interior scorer. Rowe has done the majority of his damage from 15 feet in. He has carried McQueen this season averaging nearly 24 points and 13 rebounds per game.
Tommy Anderson 5’10 PG Mojave 2020 – Anderson is a lightning-quick guard for Mojave. Big-time scorer who, combined with Dante Ingram, make up a tough 1-2 punch for Mojave. Anderson has had games of 26 and 37 this season.
