All three Missouri squads were in action, and once again proved that the Show-Me-State can put its’ talent up against anyone. Here is a look at the Missouri standouts from the final day of action:
6’5 Jr Aminu Mohammed | Greenwood
Just when you think he had made his statement, Aminu breaks out another record-setting performance. Clearly, he saved his best for last. Greenwood found themselves matched-up with yet another national powerhouse in Christ the King, and yet again, they didn’t flinch. The Blue Jays proved to be a more than worthy opponent, forcing overtime, before falling 71-67. Aminu was sensational. He scored 38 points on 16-30 shooting and pulled down a TofC single game record 23 rebounds. His 100 points over three days ties him for fourth all-time in the tournament. His 52 rebounds sets the new tournament record. He was named to the All-Tournament Team and received high praise from several visiting coaches. Humbled and focused as always, the state’s top junior will now turn his attention on getting back to JQH in March to defend Greenwood’s state championship crown.
6’0 So Tommy Pinegar | Greenwood
Tell me if you’ve heard this before? Tommy Pinegar is a big-time shooter and buried four three-pointers, some of which from several feet beyond the three-point line. He is one of the most lethal sharpshooters in the state and is fearless in big moments. He nailed a go-ahead triple to beat the buzzer at the end of the 3rd quarter.
5’10 Jr Grant Harper | Greenwood
Harper is such an important part of Greenwood’s team for what he does as a lead guard and distributor. Don’t be fooled, when he needs to score it he is more than capable. Grant was huge against Christ the King, finishing with 13 points, including a three-pointer and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.
6’2 Fr Nicolas Burri | Greenwood
Burri has made some critical contributions in the scoring column at times this season. Saturday, the talented freshman filled up the stat sheet in other ways. Against a big, athletic Christ the King team Nicolas yanked down ten rebounds for the Blue Jays.
6’2 Jr Anton Brookshire | Kickapoo
Brookshire wrapped up a fabulous weekend with another solid performance against Greensboro Day. He finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Anton amassed an impressive 71 points over the three days and has absolutely boosted his national profile in the process. I fully anticipate more offers to come rolling in for him in the very near future.
6’2 Jr Cameron Liggins | Kickapoo
Liggins continues to emerge as one of the more dangerous players in the Springfield area. He was solid throughout the weekend and put a bow on things Saturday with 14 points on 3-4 shooting from beyond the arc. He also pitched in four rebounds. The Chiefs are capable of making a run in March, and Liggins consistent performances are a large part of the reason why.
6’5 Jr Nicholas Kern | Vashon
Kern was dominant in Vashon’s 62-51 3rd Place Game win over a loaded Booker T Washington team. He poured in a team high 20 points on an impressive 8-9 shooting from the field. He also pulled down six rebounds for the Wolverines. He is a very intriguing prospect with good length, crafty finishing ability, and a unique herky-jerk style to his game that makes him a tough guard.
6’7 Sr Cam’Ron Fletcher | Vashon
Another day, another double-double for Kentucky bound Cam’Ron Fletcher. He finished with 14 points, including two three-pointers, and a game high 15 rebounds. For the weekend, he combined for 63 points and 41 rebounds against some of the top competition in the country.
