La Crosse Central’s Zone Defense:
Central is the frontrunner for the division two State tournament, and while the Davis brothers, Terrance Thompson and a deep bench will lead that title push, tonight their zone propelled the blowout victory. With the aforementioned talent topping off their 1-3-1 zone, Central forced turnovers and owned the pace by creating defensive havoc.
Noah Compan and Charlie Masewicz Are on the Rise:
Both of these prospects offer up unique talent, especially on the offensive end. Although Central already thrives on their frontcourt play, the 6’4” Compan supplies additional length, rebounding potential and sheer talent. At this point in his development, though, the senior Masewicz can make a stronger impact. His size opens the door for an elite inside game, and his three-point jumper (he made two on the day) adds dimensions and value to Central’s offense.
The Davis Brothers Are The Top Guard-Forward Duo in the State:
This takeaway may have already been set in stone. Johnny Davis, the top-ranked senior in the state, and Jordan Davis, a top-ten senior in the state, offer up similar yet equally unguardable skillsets. Johnny specializes as an athletic driver, mid-range shooter, and rebounder, while Jordan is a swift attacker and a three-point shooter.
In short, tonight reaffirmed their spot as the top guard-forward duo in the state.
Gavin Wetzel is the Bright Spot for Aquinas:
Aquinas lost by a large margin tonight, which cast a shadow on Wetzel’s impressive night. It was subtle, but he flashed a crisp mid-range shot and attacked the rim for a few skilled finishes.
Terrance Thompson Has an Elite Transition Game:
Thompson did a few things very well tonight, none more apparent than his emphatic transition playstyle. He threw down a couple of fastbreak jams, giving Central added momentum in the first half. He also swallowed up a handful of rebounds as his teammates attempted to speed up the pace, adding to Central’s consistent domination.
