We have entered an era of basketball in which just about every player is at least capable of making a three-point shot. That said, there will always be a select few whose shooting ability is on a different level, and I think these prospects fall into that category.
Here are six of the best shooters I’ve seen thus far this season:
Thailand Elder Thailand Elder 6'1" | SG Allen | 2020 State #439 Nation TX – 2020 6’1 Shooting Guard (Dallas Seawolves) Allen HS -I’ve had the chance to see Elder play a few times this season. His shooting ability from beyond the three-point stripe always catches my attention. He thrives in catch-and-shoot scenarios, particularly from the corners. The LA Tech commit rarely forces a bad shot and knows how to get open off the ball. He has also shown that he is very capable of drilling triples in transition.
M.J. Leslie M.J. Leslie 6'1" | SG Denton Braswell | 2020 State TX – 2020 5’11 Guard (Texas Impact 4:13) Denton Braswell HS – Leslie uses a variety of methods to get himself a good look from range. The senior guard can hit threes from the catch, off the bounce, and utilizes step-back moves as well. He is an excellent ball handler who is extremely crafty when it comes to setting himself up for a good look from three-point land. His 37% three-point percentage through his first three seasons showcases his consistency.
Vinny Sigona Vinny Sigona 6'1" | PG Prestonwood Christian | 2022 State TX – 2022 5’11 Combo Guard (YGC36) Prestonwood Christian Academy – Despite being an underclassman who has flown a bit under the radar, Sigona is very deserving of being on this list. He has a brilliant pull-up game and can do damage from both mid-range and behind the arc. The Sophomore guard has an incredibly pure jumper. His combination of dribbling and shooting make him a ton of fun to watch.
Marcus Williams Marcus Williams 6'2" | SG Dickinson | 2020 State #410 Nation TX – 2020 6’2 Guard (Team Harden (Adidas)) Dickinson HS – Williams is converting on 39% of his three-point attempts this season. The Northern Colorado commit operates very effectively at point guard or shooting guard and can get himself free for triples both on and off the ball. He is also a threat to score off the drive, which affords him with some extra space to work with while out on the perimeter. Tramon Mark Tramon Mark 6'5" | SG Dickinson | 2020 State #76 Nation TX may be Dickinson’s primary scorer, but Williams is the team’s difference maker when he is on.
Beau Becker Beau Becker 6'4" | SF Woodrow Wilson | 2020 State TX – 2020 6’6 Forward Dallas Wilson HS – Becker is another under-the-radar prospect who is deserving of more attention. He is averaging 17 points per game this season and is also shooting an impressive 44% from three. His size allows him to make contested shots, and he is virtually automatic when left open. The senior forward can play at the three or four spot and knows how to take advantage of mismatches.
Reese Smith – 2020 6’7 Power Forward Hebron HS – Every time I had the opportunity to watch Hebron play in 2019, I’ve been blown away by Smith. He is a knock-down three-point shooter who can make you pay from any spot on the court. He has range to spare and his size makes it difficult for opponents to contest his shots. It’s hand down man down with this guy.
