5. Columbine
Columbine has had a good season only losing one game to the number one team Rangeview. The team is being led by CU commit Luke O’Brien who is leading the team in points and rebounds. He has had a teammate step up, Garret Rogers, who is a good shooter from the outside and has played a big role against tougher match ups. Against Legend Garret had 24 points and against Rangeview he had 17 points. Also, they have big man Justin Lohrenz who has recently returned from injury and helps this team out a lot. They have two good match ups coming up this week when they play Chaparral and Dakota Ridge.
4. Eaglecrest
Eaglecrest is still undefeated in state, only losing one game to an out of state team. Everyone seems to know about their trio: Zion Ruckard, Skylar Wilson, and Ty Robinson, who have been killing it against teams. They also have some teammates who are stepping up: a 6’5 big man, Adrian Price who is averaging 7 points and 7 rebounds per game, and they have a great glue guy, Donovan Stilson who may not fill up the stat sheet but does a ton of the small things to help his team win. They have some good match ups this week when they play an Arapahoe team trying to prove themselves, followed by a very good Grandview team.
3. East
East had their first big match up of the year this past Saturday when they beat Chaparral. This was a tough fought game downtown in a packed gym. This East team has a solid 6 to 7 man rotation who pushes the pace against other teams. They have the two star players, Langston Reynolds and Boston Stanton, who are each averaging over 20 points per game. They also have Quis Davis who is leading 5A in assists at the current time with 6.7 per game and is getting 3.4 steals per game. They also have their veteran Patrick Steed who is averaging 12.8 points and 3.5 steals. They have a rematch against Mullen this upcoming week which should be a decent challenge for them.
2. Smoky Hill
Smoky Hill has beat expectations so far this year, with a young squad this team has surprisingly good chemistry. Leading the charge for the Buffaloes is junior Jalen Weaver who has been arguably the best player in 5A this year. The most impressive part of his game is he is able to play within the flow of the game while getting his own buckets but not forcing any bad shots. They also have the most athletic team in the state with Dylan Sanders, Anthony Harris Jr., and Deangelo Horn who can all jump out of the gym. This week they play an up and down Overland team.
1. Rangeview
Rangeview has beaten everyone in their tough part of the schedule and are looking to cruise through the rest of the season in the EMAC. This team is one of, if not the deepest, teams in the state. They have four players coming off the bench who could be starting on a lot of 5A teams: Isaiah Hayes, Isaiah Jamison, Ronnie Hatch, and Jovaughn Wright, this just shows how deep they are because these guys are legit players. This team has no real tough match ups this week but are a fun team to look out for.
