Blake McKay Shows Out
McKendree commit 6’2” point guard Blake McKay is one of the top small high school players in southern Illinois and he put on a show in his three quarters of play. McKay is a strong guard with crisp precise movements. He drilled a pair of threes and some pull ups. McKay handles it well finding the weaknesses in the defense and exploiting it whether it be for threes or blowing by defenders on drives. Finished well and got out in transition including a nice dunk. As a distributor McKay got others involved setting up his shooters and pushing ahead in the open floor. Like what he did defensively moving his feet and staying in front of his man. McKay had 22 points and 5 dimes.
Woodlawn Wing Duo Impress
It was more than just McKay for Woodlawn. They had a pair of senior wings that were strong playing next to him in Race Rynski and Chase Hollenkamp. Rynski converted a pair of and-1s and is a solid shooter with a three along with a crisp one dribble pull up. Went for 17 ponts. Hollenkamp was outstanding shooting from deep making five from three point range. Brings some good length at 6’2”. Scored 16 points.
Woodlawn State Title Contender
With this win Woodlawn moved to 15-2 on the season. They are a top 10 team in 1A and if they play like they did on Tuesday we could definitely see them in Peoria in March. Their ability to create turnovers and turn defense into offense was very impressive.
Flora’s Youth
Definitely a tough night for Flora, but the bright spot was their top scorers in this game will all be back next season. Post players Jay Desai and Jerron Borders each netted 6 points on the interior. Holden Warren is a lefty shooter that scoed 6 points.
Small School Hoops
Alot of the focus in Illinois prep basketball is with the big name programs and high profile players. It always fun to see small schools play and see the community support for their teams. It is the thing to do on a January Tuesday night in those smaller towns!
