This game featured an intriguing 2021 post in Palatine’s Julian Campbell along with one of the better small college point guard prospects in the state in Willowbrook’s Everett Stubblefield. Palatine controlled the game throughout winning by a final of 67-55. Here are our 5 Takeaways: Palatine vs Willowbrook!
Julian Campbell Displays Versatile Offensive Game
This was our second time this season checking out Palatine and their 6’7” big bodied center Julian Campbell. The junior post has a wide body which creates space on the interior. Campbell is a skilled guy though too. He hit a pair of threes and several mid-range jumpers in this game. The aspect that we liked was he didn’t live and die with that though like we had seen earlier in his career. Finished well around the hoop with hook shots, and-1s, put backs, spin moves, and converting dump offs. Not the best athlete and doesn’t have much lift at this stage. Did run the floor hard for one bucket. Quality area rebounder that did a nice job grabbing boards on both ends. Campbell finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Everett Stubblefield is Impactful on Both Ends
Willowbrook 2020 Everett Stubblefield is a 5’10” point guard that brings quickness. Quality ball handler that can also knock down shots. Drilled a pair of threes along with a deep pull up two. Crisp pull up game. Pesky on ball defender that puts pressure on opposing lead guards. Stubblefield had 16 points. High level small college point guard prospect.
Palatine Supporting Cast
Campbell got plenty of help throughout the night. Luke Seiffert is a 5’11” junior that connected on multiple threes off the catch and mixed in some layups for 14 points. Tommy Swanson also did a nice job for the Pirates with his perimeter shooting.
Willowbrook Senior and Sophomore Put Names on Radar
Senior Sean Tumilty is a 5’9” point guard that brings a lot of grit and scrappy play to the table for Willowbrook. Can score in the lane with scoop shots and spinning layups. Also hit several threes en route to 18 points. A sophomore post that we were intrigued by is Sean Paige. The 6’7” four man competed against an older and stronger Campbell throughout the night. Blocked his shot a couple times. Solid rebounder and defender with upside offensively. Scored 6 points showing physical tools that can be developed long term.
MLK Tournament
The Lake Zurich Tournament is a great chance for both of these teams to get in multiple games in a short period of time to prepare them for the stretch run of the season and playoffs while playing different styles of teams.
