So, based on statistics submitted to MaxPreps and only taking into account those players we have actually laid eyes on this year, here are the guys that have done the best over the course of the season.
Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn – 5’11 PG 2023 – McCutcheon (IN)
19.7 ppg, 42% from 3, 45% from the field
Breakdown: McCutcheon was in a spot where they needed to get something going. They were missing their standout senior who is coming off a knee injury and wasn’t ready to go until the last couple of weeks. So, that meant struggle or see if you could get someone to step up and Dravyn has done just that. He’s had a ton of notable games scoring into the 20+ range in every game except five of the 15 he has played. He scored 30 points against Kokomo. He’s done a lot of this with his perimeter jumper going 35/83 from deep and scoring 35% of his points from behind the arc.
QuShawn Ware – 6’5 SF 2023 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
10.2 ppg, 37% from 3, 45% from the field
Breakdown: Ware has been an impressive standout on a very loaded upperclass team in Attucks. They didn’t need him to be good this year, he just has found his niche and excelled in his role. 10 points per game for Attucks in really impressive. His role is that of perimeter shooter who has made 37% of his threes. Even a good chunk of his 2-point shots are coming via jumpers. He is either all or nothing with his production but he’s really shown that he can make big plays, a la the Cathedral City Championship game.
Peyton Bledsoe – 6’3 SF 2023 – Loogootee (IN)
9.8 ppg, 37% from three, 44% from the field
Breakdown: Loogootee has shined this season and they have had to lean on some of the depth in order to get to this point. One of those guys is Bledsoe. The big wing has added a little bit of everything for them from a rebounding presence to a passer within their offense. They have needed him to using his size to his advantage early on and he seemed to have done that well averaging 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He’s also scored in double figures in 9 games this season. He’s got the ability to shoot and drive so as the season wears on and his confidence rises, he could step up like he did against Barr-Reeve and Bloomfield scoring 15 and 18 respectively in those games.
Latrell White – 6’4 C 2023 – Anderson (IN)
7.4 ppg, 44% from the field, 6.7 rpg
Breakdown: Anderson has been a struggle this year as they are very, very young but Latrell has shown himself as a bright spot and potential standout in future years. With little to no size on this roster, White provides and interior presence who can really rack up boards and score on the low block. He’s not had as many big games as the guys list on here but still has five games scoring 10 or more points. He has had a couple bigger games, one against Muncie Central where he had 15 and 16 boards and against Marion where he had 16 and 13. That double-double potential is legit and he should continue to be a factor as he gets more mature and hopefully grows a bit.
Cooper Horn – 6’1 SG 2023 – Columbus North (IN)
6.9 ppg, 46% from 3, 58% from the field
Breakdown: Columbus North has proven they are a real threat in 4A this year and while they are led by seniors, Cooper has stepped up and might be the their third scoring threat even as a freshman. He’s been putting in some key minutes and scoring pretty consistently with a few peaks with four games scoring 10 or more points. He’s also adding some key shooting at 46%. He’s not taken a ton, only 37 threes in total, but his scoring efficiency is so good for his age and for a depth piece, you need that consistency and reliability.
Five More To Watch:
Jaron Tibbs – 6’2 SG 2023 – Cathedral (6.7ppg)
Nick Thompson – 6’2 SG 2023 – Bishop Luers (5.8ppg)
Jaqualon Roberts – 6’5 SF 2023 – Bloomington North (5.6ppg)
Eric Troutman – 5’11 PG 2023 – Anderson (5.3ppg)
Jake Davis – 6’5 SF 2023 – Cathedral (4.4ppg)
