4 Ohio Players Named to All-Tournament Team at Flyin’ to the Hoop
This past weekend, Prep Hoops had multiple eyes on the 2nd highest-rated high school basketball tournament in the nation: Flyin’ to the Hoop. Not only does the tournament bring some of the best teams, players, scouts, and college coaches from across the country, it also offers the best all-around atmosphere in high school basketball with the love of basketball there is in Dayton, Ohio.
With that being said, there is added pressure to players in an event like this, and it takes a special player to perform under the conditions. We were pleasantly surprised by some new and familiar faces across Ohio, and we already covered the daily standouts. In addition, Flyin’ to the Hoop announced its all-tournament team, 4 out of 6 players being from an Ohio school. Here are our thoughts on each player:
The 6’5 SG from St. Vincent-St. Mary’s was undoubtedly the top performer at Flyin’ to the Hoop. His raw athleticism was on display as he was matched up against arguably the most up-tempo team in all of Ohio, Trotwood Madison. With his size, strength, composure, and ability to finish at the rim, there is no reason to question why he has the offers he does. According to the official stat sheet, he tallied 44 points and 11 rebounds on 17/30 shooting, with my personal favorite stat from him being the 10/10 on free throws.
Andy Barba
Andy is a 6’6 SG/SF from ISA at Andrews Osborne (Originally from Benedictine High School in Cleveland). Andy was dominant down the stretch in their big win against Hillcrest Prep, a team with multiple 5-star and 4-star players. He hit key shots and had a momentum-inducing 3 point play, the old fashion way, that ultimately sparked ISA to close out the game. Andy had 19 points on 6/11 shooting, had 8 rebounds, and went 5/5 from the charity stripe. He has received offers from Missouri State, Washington State, and Bryant. It will be interesting to see if more come in due to his performance this weekend. He will be a versatile weapon wherever he ends up.
Jalin is a 6’7 PF from Lutheran East. His lengthy frame and athleticism were too much for Alter to handle. He was a dynamic threat and will continue to be that way throughout the rest of his career. Shooting 2/5 from downtown and 4/6 from inside the arc, his size and athleticism are going to be a defender’s nightmare. At the high school level, you aren’t going to find too many bodies that can match up with a player of his nature. He still has another year to mature and strengthen his skills, but already has multiple Division 1 offers from multiple schools, and we believe that list will continue to grow. He had 20 points, 5 rebounds, and went 6/6 from the charity stripe.
The 6’6 SF from St. Eds was a key element in both of the team’s victories, one being to nationally ranked Huntington Prep. Devontae has an encouraging work ethic, and that translated into him getting the most minutes out of anyone on St. Eds. In fact, he played exactly 30 minutes and 20 seconds in the win versus Huntington prep. His size and athleticism allow him to guard anyone on the court. He can also shoot the ball from deep as he went 4/7 from downtown. He currently holds offers from Dayton, Cleveland State, Duquense, and Toledo.
