American Heritage High School is a private school located in American Fork, UT that has under 1,000 students K-12. In their first year competing in the UHSAA they boast an 11-4 record. They seem to be getting better as they are closing the gap against some of those other traditional power schools.
Coach Jake Dastrup and Assistant Coach Paora Winitana are doing a great job developing players and playing at a high level so quickly. Coach Dastrup played at SLCC and BYU-Hawaii 2009-2012. Coach Winitana is a popular basketball player from New Zealand who even scored 96 points in a game while in high school. He played professionally from 1996-2016. Both of these coaches are passing the torch to their players.
Two players that are benefiting from their talents and their coaches coaching ability are 6’6 Connor McKee and 6’6 Paora Winitana Jr.
Connor Mckee is averaging 22.53 points a game, 10 rebounds and almost 4 steals a game as well. H had a season high 39 points earlier this season. He can shoot from the outside if needed as well. Connor is a quality prospect that could get some traction late as colleges will start to notice.
Paora Jr. is just a chip off the old block as he is putting up 17 points a game over 10 rebounds and almost for assist a game. The junior has a bright future ahead of him as colleges have expressed interest in him already as he is a strong 230 lbs. as well.
There are 4 more games before the state playoffs commence and American Heritage is one of those teams that people want to avoid. They are currently #6 in the RPI and could possibly move up in these next few games. Connor has only been held in single digits 3 times this year but could avenge a few of those loses sin the state tournament. Paora was held to single digits once this year.
Look for them to make a run in the playoffs, especially with this duo that is almost scoring 40 points a game combined and hauling in over 20 rebounds per game.
