2020 Rankings Update: Top Point Guards
We have updated our rankings for the 2020 class. We have broken down the top 5 players in the class but now we move into the top point guards that the state has to offer. There was slight movement and even players that jumped into our top five but these are the players that with much debate we feel best represents the state’s top guards.
Kobe Sanders Kobe Sanders 5'11" | CG Chaparral | 2020 State #427 Nation CO – Chaparral
Sanders is the top point guard in the state and the No. 8 player in the entire class. He is a player that a school at the next level can build around and he is a true leader that gets it done in various ways. He is a guard that is capable of scoring in bunches as seen by his 40 points against Top-10 team Columbine just a week ago. He stood out this summer on the circuit helping lead his team to countless victories and is a four-year varsity player and three-year starter that has only seen his game expand. In his senior year, he has become a better and more willing passer that sets plays up for himself and gets his teammates in better scoring positions and Chaparral knows that they have a unique guard in their best player who is putting up 19 points and 4.3 assists a game. That isolation, stare the defender down, face-up pullup is a move that I am sure I will remember for my remaining days. He is as good of a guard that we will have around here for some time.
Quinten Rock Quinten Rock 6'1" | PG Smoky Hill | 2020 State #465 Nation CO – Smoky Hill
Rock is the No. 2 point guard in the state and the No.9 player in the class. He is a two-way guard that exemplifies leadership and has a wide range of abilities on the basketball court. He can score, defend, shoot, pass the ball to the open man and is a high IQ guard that the game slows down for. He is putting up 16.9 points and 5.5 assists a game and that play have led his Smoky Hill team to an 11-2 record in unarguably the best conference in the entire state. Rock has great court awareness and vision, excels in PnR situations and also scores when called upon. He gets the offense into their sets and penetrates the defense. He steps up in big games and no moment is too big for him.
Zion Ruckard Zion Ruckard 5'9" | PG Eaglecrest | 2020 State CO – Eaglecrest
Rounding off the Top-10 is the third-highest guard in the class. Ruckard came off of an impressive junior campaign, had an incredible summer and now has put his name in the conversation as the most improved player in the state. Ruckard went from putting up 10.1 points and 2.8 assists a game to now rolling in his senior season and leading his No. 3 ranked Eaglecrest team to an 11-2 record overall averaging a team-high 17.9 points and 5.9 assists a game to go along with it. He is maybe the state’s quickest guard and uses that speed to get to the rim, frees himself with his outside shooting and also gets others involved with solid passing. Ruckard deserves all of the attention that he is getting nowadays and has grown immensely in only a year. Thing is, I do not believe that he is close to his ceiling.
Ty Foster Ty Foster 6'1" | PG Lincoln | 2020 State CO – Lincoln
Lincoln is a team with a two-headed monster of TJ Bamba TJ Bamba 6'5" | CG Lincoln | 2020 State #241 Nation CO and Ty Foster Ty Foster 6'1" | PG Lincoln | 2020 State CO . While Bamba scores with ease, Foster is the guard that settles the team down and runs the show. Foster is one of the state’s best perimeter defenders but he also finds a way to get it done offensively as well. On the season he is averaging 14.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game while also putting up a shocking 3.8 steals a game. He turns those baskets into easy baskets on the other end of the floor. Foster is a guard that defends, finishes well at the rim and also is capable of dunking the ball. He is a pass-first guard that has been forced to take more shots this season and with how he is playing has moved into a top-15 player in the class with room to grow by season’s end.
Christopher Speller Christopher Speller 6'2" | CG Rangeview | 2020 State CO – Range view
Speller is one of the better bigger guards in the state and he is a guard that takes care of the basketball. He also uses his size as an advantage to score over smaller defenders and also knocks down the mid-range shot consistently. He is a winner by all means leading and winning the 5A state championship last season and has used that to begin the season as the No. 1 team and an unblemished 13-0 record. He is putting up 10.7 points and 3.2 assists on the season and as long as he is playing at this level then the Raiders have a chance at defending the state championship as the No.5 guard in the class leads his team to victory game in and game out.
