Blue Ridge School just out to a big lead in the first half
Blue Ridge School didn’t waste any time in their second game of the 2020 Chance Harman Classic. They battled with Victory Rock in the first quarter but in the second, they went of a 24-7 run to lead 42-18 at halftime. Blue Ridge’s backcourt of Mike Gray and William Lee made a combined six 3-pointers and had 29 points together as they opened up with much better shooting performances.
Victory Rock goes scoreless beyond the arc
In the end, Blue Ridge School got the win 68-34 over Victory Rock. After a hot night on Day 1, Victory Rock Prep went 0-for-9 as a team from the 3-point line in the loss, an interesting turn of events. After a cold shooting night, they’re sure to be an improved team to watch as they return to their home state of Florida.
Mike Gray thrives in the victory
Junior guard Mike Gray was impressive on Day 2 for the Blue Ridge School. He finished the game with 20 points, seven assists and two steals, adjusting well after a rough shooting display the night before. Gray had a much better start on Day 2, opening the first half with 15 points on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc as well as four assists and two steals. He led the way by example on Day 2 and the result showed with a win.
William Lee leads the way from 3
While Gray led the way scoring, unsigned senior guard William Lee bounced back in a big way leading the team in 3-pointers made with four. Lee put up 19 points while going 4-of-9 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 from free-throw line. He also dished out three assists at the off-guard position. He’s a 5-foot-10 guard to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
Maliq Brown thriving off the bench
2022 forward Maliq Brown is still a spark off the bench for Blue Ridge School. He led the way off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds in 19 minutes of action. As he learns to limit his turnovers and impact shots on the defensive end, he’ll be a player to watch across the next few seasons.
