Pure Scorer: Guard Christian Winborne, Gilman
Christian Winborne stepped up big with his teammate Malik Missouri out with injury for possibly the rest of the season. He averaged 18.3 points per game with 13, 19 and 23 points in Gilman’s three appearances in the 2019 Governor’s Challenge. Winborne shot the ball well from the field and even posted 18 of his 19 points in a comeback victory against Linden (NJ).
Floor General: Point Guard Jayden Pierre, Elizabeth
Elizabeth (NJ) point guard Jayden Pierre was hard to stop when the ball touched his hands in the 2019 Governor’s Challenge. Pierre averaged 15.7 points, 5.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game. He finished seventh in total points and second in assists per game in the DMVElite Showcase Division. He was a breath of fresh air by controlling the pace and getting his teammates involved in plays. Pierre uses his length and ballhandling well to blow by defenders and create on the fastbreak. He holds offers from Rutgers, Florida and Robert Morris.
Versatile Threat: Guard Brock Davis, Georgetown Day
Brock Davis was a standout performer for the Georgetown Day Springers. He put up 20 points, 11 rebounds (5 offensive) and seven steals against Stephen Decatur in a 68-49 victory. He stepped up with his ability to score off the dribble at 6-foot-4, using his strength well to get to the rim. He was also quite the defender for his squad as evidenced by his steal count. He’s a prospect to keep an eye on in the frontcourt alongside Montez McNeill.
Post Presence: Forward/Center Favour Aire, Bishop McNamara
Favour Aire is a 6-foot-10 prospect that’s improving by the game at Bishop McNamara. Aire had quite the weekend in the paint averaging 11.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks along with 9.7 points per game. As his offensive game comes along, he’ll be an interesting prospect to watch in the WCAC. The bright side of his scoring is he shot 63.2 percent from the field in the Governor’s Challenge.
Upside: Forward George Perkins, Sidwell Friends
George Perkins is another 6-foot-10 prospect with quite the potential at Sidwell Friends in the frontcourt. Perkins ran the floor well, attacked the rim and showed nice touch on his midrange shot in the Quakers’ appearance in the Governor’s Challenge. He finished with 12 points and five rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting in a win over St. Vincent Palotti. He’s a prospect to keep an eye on with potential on the interior and perimeter.
Athlete: Guard Efrem Johnson, Western Branch
Efrem Johnson is a guard at Western Branch High School. Johnson had a solid outing against Middleburg (VA) in the bracket title game although they came up short. He finished with 28 points while shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 10-of-14 from the free-throw line. He used his strength well to get to the rim and finish through contact and oftentimes, drew fouls with his ability to maneuver to the rim.
