Prep Hoops Colorado has done our best to get out to as many games as we can and have seen plenty of these players this season. We have already discussed some of the top scorers before the break and also assisters but now we focus on some of the top bigs who have been able to affect the game with their work on the boards. Cedar Ross, Mountain Valley – 18.8 rebounds a game
Through five games the state leader is at a whopping 18 rebounds a game and that is 20+ rebounds in three of the five games. Mountain Valley is 3-2 so it needs to translate to wins but there is no denying that these are incredible numbers for the 6’1 forward.
Eitan Kochavi, Denver Jewish Day – 16.6 rebounds a game
It has only been three games but when you average 16 points as a guard and also have 16 rebounds to go along with it, you are going to get a bit of attention. I want to see him continue on this trend as those are impressive numbers to have in your final year.
Josh Yoder, Edison – 13.6 rebounds a game
Yoder is close to averaging a double-double this season as he is at nine points a game but has been a glass cleaner that is at 13 rebounds a game. He is keeping plays alive as a hard worker with the size but it is his determination and wanting the ball more than the defender that separates him from the pack. Big-time numbers for this sophomore.
Chance Gulliford, Cotopaxi – 13.4 rebounds a game
Cotopaxi is ahead of the 2A/1A West Central league and it is behind the play of their senior captain Gulliford. This big man has been having his way with smaller defenders as he uses his 6’7, 240-pound frame to dominate on every possession. He is at 13.4 rebounds a game and is also scoring with ease down there. If he does however miss, just know he is getting the ball right back and going up. Great start of the year for him.
Damien Barnes, Eads – 12.4 rebounds a game
Barnes is a junior with a high upside that is a two-way player that gets after it. He is going to attack the paint with physicality and he is also going to clean the boards and keep plays alive. He is not afraid to use his body down there and has been a player teams have had to scout for that makes it difficult for opposing bigs.
