Pierre Brooks II (2021, G/F, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
There isn’t a more talented player in Michigan. He seemed to know what his team needed, and delivered. Brooks had 20 points, but the most impressive part of his game was his basketball IQ and the way he acted as a coach on the floor. Brooks contributes in every category on the stat sheet.
Zavion McClendon (2020, G, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
McClendon has all the tools; size, athleticism, and the ability to get to the rim. He was active on the glass and found teammates in scoring positions. .
Donivan Peoples (2020, G, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
Peoples had 13 points against the Hornets. His 3 pointer looked pure with a quick release that was tough to close out on. Peoples had a nose for the ball coming off the rim.
Javantae Randle (2021, F/C, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
Randle was a game changer in the paint. He had 9 second half points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots. He was a prototypical rim protector and Saline had no answer for him under the bucket.
Trevor Arico (2020, G, Saline)
Arico is a confident shooter that finished with 17 points. He was guarded closely but still found his looks at the rim. Arico moves hard without the ball.
Griffin Yaklich (2020, G, Saline)
Yaklich was more aggressive in the 2nd half and it suited him well. He bulldozed his way to the basket off screens where he finished and dished. Yaklich had 18 points for the afternoon.
Ann Arbor Huron vs. North Farmington
This game was a grind fest from the opening tip. Both teams played lockdown defense, highlighted by key matchups between stars. Both teams have the potential to make memorable runs in the post season. Ann Arbor Huron pulled out the win by a score of 47-41. This may be Huron’s most talented squad since its 2010 state championship game appearance.
Tyson Edmondson (2021, G, Ann Arbor Huron)
Edmondson might have been the MOP of the game. He finished with the game with 18 points, all on 3 pointers. Edmondson showed that he has range well beyond the 3 point line.
Julian Lewis (2021, G/F, Ann Arbor Huron)
Lewis was a menace on defense for Huron. He had the tough task of checking Basheer Jihad and he performed more than admirably.
Mike Robinson (2020, F, Ann Arbor Huron)
Robinson is so active around the rim on both ends. He’s athletic and wiggly on offense and a versatile defender on the other end.
Justus Clark (2020, PG, North Farmington)
Much of what Clark did may not resonate in statistics. He was a steadying influence at the point and an excellent ball handler that was comfortable with the pace.
Eddie Lenton (2020, G/F, North Farmington)
Lenton was a force in the lane for North Farmington. He had 13 points and was a very efficient scorer.
