Kareem Rowe 6’6 PF McQueen 2020 – Rowe is a no brainer. I place a ton of emphasis on production and high school performance. Rowe checks both boxes. Currently leading the state in scoring and he is one of the top rebounders. He has been instrumental in all 6 of his squad’s victories this season and has been the best player on the floor the majority of the time.
Frank Bartley 6’0 PG Spring Valley 2021 – I didn’t get a chance to see much of Bartley in the fall because he was putting in work on the gridiron. That was my loss. Bartley has proven to be a tempo changing guard for a good Spring Valley team. He’s provided perimeter defense along with ballhandling and playmaking on the offensive end. Bartley was just named to the All-Tournament team at the Gallup Invitational.
Ephram Ezidiegwu 6’5 C Bonanza 2023 – You better get Bonanza now, because coach Soares is stockpiling talent. Ezidiegwu could probably get minutes on the varsity, however, the freshmen big man is gaining valuable experience playing on the freshmen team. Like most players his size and age, he is raw, however, he has a tremendous upside and has earned the right to be in the freshmen rankings.
Sylis Gray 6’3 SF Clark 2022 – Gray is a silky smooth playmaker. He has contributed heavily for a Clark team in transition. Gray has all the physical tools to have an impactful High School career. He’s able to defend his position, he can shoot it and he makes plays off the bounce. The combination of watching him in camps this fall and his contributions for Clark, have him in the rankings.
Gianni Rodriguez 6’3 SF Sierra Vista 2022 – He’s another guy that I watched play during the fall. Rodriguez has a terrific feel for the game. It’s hard to pinpoint his best skill because he is efficient at several. He is adept at creating off the bounce and can grab a defensive rebound and start the fast break by himself. He’s playing in a supportive role right now, but he clearly has the skills to be ranked.
Jacob Sanford 6’4 PF Boulder City 2020 – Sanford is going on my all glue guy team. He brings relentless energy and effort to the court. A terrific leaper, Sanford can get off the floor as quickly with his second jump as many can with their first. He provides the perfect complement to a talented Boulder City team.
Meshack Hawkins 6’0 SG Chaparral 2020 – I don’t feel bad about missing on Shack early, because he was out dominating on the football field. Hawkins is a do it all player for Chaparral. He plays both off and on the ball, and is a monster in transition. He’ll probably have one of the biggest jumps of any of the players in the rankings.
Jaylen Berry 6’2 PG Basic 2021 – Jaylen Berry has a chance to be special. He’s a floor general, that excels at creating shots for himself. Some call it shake, others call it wiggle, whatever it is Berry has it when he’s handling the ball. Basic has a trio of good juniors, Berry has a chance to be the best out of them. He is serving notice to the rest of the city, currently averaging over 17 per game.
Demetri Clair 6’2 SF Foothill 2020 – Clair is the workhorse and backbone of Foothill. He routinely battles larger players and has a knack for scoring inside. Much like his baskets, he has earned his way into the rankings with his relentless effort and determination. Clair is the type of player necessary for any winning team.
Niko Canencia 5’7 PG Legacy 2023 – Nicko is a pure PG that plays the game much bigger than his 5’7 frame. He plays with terrific pace, and understands how to lose defenders by changing heights and speeds. The lefty is uber quick and has an array of finishes that he uses once he gets into the lane. He will be making his first appearance in the rankings this month.
