WAYLAND -- The #7 team in Class 1A survived a scare on Friday night, as WACO held off a young but talented New London team, winning 55-53 to remain undefeated, improving to 9-0. 

The Warriors started off with a bang, jumping out to a 14-2 lead before New London knew what had hit them. The Tigers used a 9-0 run to climb back within 3, and WACO answered with a 12-0 run of their own, pushing the lead back out to 26-11 with 6:00 to play before the half. The Warriors went cold, scoring just two points the rest of the half, and took a 9-point lead into the locker rooms. 

The intensity picked up on both ends in the second half, with a scrappy Tigers group clawing their way back to within a bucket on multiple occasions, but they were never able to string together enough stops or score a crucial bucket to tie it or take the lead late. Trailing 55-52, New London freshman Kade Benjamin was fouled with 2.0 to play, meaning he'd need to make the first, intentionally miss the second and hope for a miracle. He made the first, but threw his second attempt
