The Hawks led for a majority of the game, but the Titans continued to fight until they finally took the lead late in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the home team came out victorious thanks in part to some heroics by sophomore guard Braylon Wheeler. Here we identify the 10 best from this hard-fought contest.
BEST ATHLETE | TJ HORTON | TC WILLIAMS ’20
Horton’s athleticism helped him make an impact on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he was able to play at the top of TC’s 1-3-1 and make things difficult with his length and activity. On the offensive end, the 6-foot-5 wing showcased his explosiveness off the bounce, especially down the stretch.

BEST BALL-HANDLER | MIKE HENDERSON | TC WILLIAMS ’22
Henderson was a bit too casual with the ball at times, but there’s no question he has the ball on a string. TC’s diminutive lead guard got wherever he wanted to on the court, and played his best ball when his team needed him most.
BEST DEFENDER | TEKAO CARPENTER | TC WILLIAMS ’21
Carpenter was exceptional in applying pressure on the ball defensively. He was active and alert off the ball as well. Carpenter recorded three steals to go along with a handful of deflections.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | MIKE TEAL | TC WILLIAMS ’21
Teal made an instant impact when he checked into the game with his energy. He drew two charges showcasing his positioning and ability to sell contact. Teal’s only 2 points in the game came at a vital moment.

BEST MOTOR | DAVID KING | HAYFIELD ’23
King is just a freshman but based on how hard he played, one would think he was a senior and this was his last game. He was relentless on the offensive glass.
BEST PLAY | BRAYLON WHEELER | HAYFIELD ’22
Wheeler will be remembered for hitting the game-winner as time expired, but let’s not forget how solid he was on both ends of the floor. He defended well, facilitated the offense, and took what the defense gave him.

BEST PASSER | MICHAEL LEE | HAYFIELD ’20
Lee’s playmaking ability was a huge reason why Hayfield got off on the right foot. He’s fundamentally sound, plays off two feet in the lane, and can thread the needle with an accurate pass.
BEST REBOUNDER | DANIEL PETERSON | HAYFIELD ’20
Peterson was all over the glass in this one. He recorded a game-high 11 rebounds as a result of his strength, positioning, quick reactions and effort.
BEST SHOOTER | DANIEL PETERSON | HAYFIELD ’20
One thing that stood out about Peterson is that he’s a confident shooter. Coach Poindexter ran some nice sets to get him free, and the senior took advantage.

BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
This is a huge win for Hayfield, who didn’t get off to the greatest start this season. It will be interesting to see if this win can propel the Hawks on a run before these two teams meet again at the end of this month.
