The first quarter started with both teams going up and down the court putting up shots, but not much going in. This is the style that Gunderson will have to play throughout the season, their tallest player is 6’2. After a couple substitutions, Valley started to find some success on the block they have good size. Valley Christian built up a 10 point cushion and maintained that margin. final score 84-49. Here’s my take on the participants.
Valley Christian
Jaidan Paran 5’10 2023 prospect came off the bench to provide a spark. He hit a 3 to end the 1st qtr, and 2nd qtrs of this game. Parans a good prospect with too much flash at times, but he does have some skills that set him apart in this game. He has the quickness, and good handles that keep defenders off balance while getting to the bucket for points. He knocked down three 3’s in this contest to finish with 22 points.
Aleksa Jovanovic 6’3 2020 prospect started slow 6 points at the half, when Valley took control in the 3rd qtr, this prospect was on the end of most of the transition points,16 points in the 3rd qtr and finished the game with 24 points finish.
Chidi Onu 6’6 2022 and Will Hook 6’5 2022 will work the post area for Valley in the early season. It’ll be on the job training for both of the prospects. Onu is long and wiry who’s still developing his skill set works hard on defense and trying to secure rebounds, while Hooks is the more physical one whose willing to mix it up inside and will score more on the block. They worked the hi/low game.
Valley Christian is a young team with only 2 seniors on the roster. The have good size coming off the bench Jack Cheng 6’9 2021 prospect, and 6’6 Sam Rousch 2022, both are still in the developmental stages, will make contributions at some point in this season. They’ll go through some growing pains, but I expect they’ll improved dramatically if they get 6’8 2022 Tichyque Musaka a transfer who hopes to play in December.
Gunderson
Darrian Lewis 6’0 guard is a fast and strong player who rebounds and pushes in transition, he’ll pass to open teammates, but he had some success taking it all the way. In halfcourt he has a good first step that gets him into the paint for good finishes or looks at the basket. Lewis finished with 10 points.
Blessing Wells 6’0 guard can do what Lewis does , but he has to be a little close to the basket. Gunderson doesn’t have much size, so Wells has to guard the bigs and work the boards for this team, he too can start the transition break, but he’s looking to get it out and get it back. Wells had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Kaleb Gittens 5’11 guard comes off the bench looking score it anyway he can, in this game he was hot scoring all 13 points in the first half to keeping gunderson in it. He had a couple of 3 point shots go down for him. a good spark off the bench.
