For the Senior group, they do not have as much time as others so we are making sure that we get on it early and will keep up with players to take a look at. Here are five senior guards that have stood out in the first few weeks. We understand that it is a small sample size but we still would like to acknowledge players that have stood out.
Korey Hess – Arapahoe
This is a bit of a cheat as he isn’t ranked yet but in our newest rankings that come out in the next two weeks, he is definitely on there as he had a great summer where he stood out in a few showcases, now he is taking that strong play into the season. Hess is a guard that runs the offense, makes the right plays and plays well above his size and to start out the season he has been on a tear. It is only a two-game sample size but he has been able to dominate in those two games. He is leading the team in points at 22 points a game but is also able to help in other areas. He is dropping down and rebounding (5.0 rpg) and also setting up teammates (3.5 apg). He is a fun player to watch as he is capable of exploding for breakout games every single night. He is having a great start to the season.
Tre Titus – Cherokee Trail
For Cherokee Trail, it has been a two-man wrecking crew with Isaac Tesfaye and Titus. We know what we are getting out of Tesfaye as he remains a standout big man that can impact the game in multiple ways but what we have seen out of the Senior wing has caught us by surprise. Titus is averaging 20.8 points a game and although they aren’t translating to wins, he is keeping Cherokee Trails in games. He is shooting the 3-ball well and also attacking the rim and finishing. He helps on the boards, get others involved and is a player we will surely check out in the coming weeks.
Grant Swenson – Broomfield
Through three games Broomfield has one player averaging over 10 points a game and that is 6’1 guard Grant Swenson. Swenson is doing everything in his power to keep them in games just as he did against defending 3A champs, Manual, in a close loss and also had a big game after that. He is at 20 points a game and a lot of that is coming from steals. He is averaging four a game and is turning them into fast-break opportunities. He is a player that we are thrilled to keep following.
Brayden Rhoades – Dakota Ridge
Dakota Ridge is a team that is very interesting and entertaining, it just hasn’t clicked for them yet. One thing that cannot be denied is their potential. On a team that has bigger guards, Rhoades is able to play off-ball and create for himself as well as benefit from open baskets set up for him. He is at 13.8 points a game in four games and one thing that he will have to work on is consistency. He has to come with the same kind of energy and aggressive nature no matter who it is he is playing. He is a player capable of having big games but tends to be more passive against the better teams. He has to prove no matter who it is he is up against he is still the same player that is capable of putting up a big game and helping in every way that he can. I am expecting him to come on here shortly.
Marcus Labonde – Fruita Monument
Labonde is a taller guard that has started this season on a mission. Fruita Monument is 3-0 on the season and their best player to start out is, you guessed it – Labonde. He has some of the most impressive numbers on the year when looking at it from a complete game standpoint. He is averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds and 7.0 assists a game and has even led his team to a win against Cherry Creek who will get their best players back this week but a win nonetheless. Fruita Monument is setting it up so that people have no choice but to come out and see them and if Labonde is able to keep up this kind of play then he will be in our newest ranking for sure and a player that we are doing profile pieces about.
