The Tuesday Night Elite
Tuesday Night offers outstanding basketball around the state of Minnesota on a regular basis and has been for years. This year we plan to shine an old school spotlight on the new stars of Minnesota. Here are the Tuesday Night Elite (we are going to pick six guys because we use five for everything else).
***Before we get started, these are all performances I was told about through text message, direct message on twitter, twitter mentions, emails, or even the occasional facebook messenger comment. If you feel somebody should be honored let me know and we will get that on twitter and/or in this article.
Jayden Bernard of Virginia. The University of Jamestown commit produced 59 points in a 97-73 win over Mesabi East. Virginia was up 28 points at the half when Jayden had put 37 on the board and then he scored 22 in the second half before taking an early seat. Bernard also recently scored 23 in a Virginia win over Greenway (who was without Dylan DeChampeau).
Ayden McDonald of Hibbing. Ayden is a sophomore guard from Hibbing and last night he set the school record for career assists with 457 for his career. Hibbing defeated Chisholm 105-27 (also beat Mesabi East 105-47 last week) with Ayden scoring 14 points and dishing out 18 assists.
PJ Hayes of Waconia. Wacoina traveled south to play an angry Waseca team without their second best player in Connor Schwob. The result? PJ Hayes forced to do even more of the scoring and the Cats short-handed against a top team in the state. Hayes scored an impressive 41 points in the loss.
Logan Sussner of Minneota. Last night Logan Sussner put together a rebounding performance that is now tied for the 9th best single game effort in Minnesota high school basketball history, and the highest total in almost six years of basketball. Logan tracked down what is said to be an amazing 23 offensive rebounds as a part of his 32 boards plus he scored 36 points! His Minneota team – who is without junior Jacob Hennen this year – lost to TMB by a point.
Addison Metcalf of St. Croix Prep. The Lions of St. Croix Prep are off to a fantastic start beating White Bear Lake, St. Paul Washington, and St. Paul Johnson. In all these wins different players have stepped up and last night junior Addison Metcalf was able to score 34 nearly matching the 39 from Drew White. Big game for the junior.
Dewayne Thompson of Henry Sibley. A good story so far this year has been the solid play of Sibley junior Dewayne Thompson. Dewayne scored about 40 percent of his teams points in losses to Irondale and Stillwater, but last night Thompson exploded for 41 of his team’s 66 points in a one point victory over St. Louis Park.
