What is best about this list of names is a lot of them are players that we have not written a ton about. I personally love seeing new names standout as they help lead their team to victories. Here are some players who caught my eye on Tuesday evening.
Lance McGinnis –Windsor
In Windsor’s 65-55 win over Fort Collins, it was Senior guard Lance McGinnis that was the leading scorer in the game with 25 points. He was in attack mode as he only knocked down one three-pointer and made sure to get to the rim. If he wasn’t going into the rim and scoring then he was getting fouled as they could not slow him down. He went to the FT line eight times and knocked down six. While his scoring was great he also affected the game in different ways. He had seven rebounds and four assists and also got into the passing lanes as he had three steals as well.
Tom Connelly – Denver East
The Jr. sniper scored 17 points in East’s beating on Mesa Ridge. He was not the leading scorer in the game but this talented East team adding a much-needed element and player that does not allow teams to just zone them and also adding outside shooting is a welcomed addition to the team. Connelly has always been known as a shooter but adding it to a team surrounded by other great scorers in a system like Denver East’s makes them a more dangerous team. He knocked down five 3-pointers in the game and will be a perimeter scorer that the Angels will rely on. Even better is he tied for a team-high six rebounds and also had three steals as well. He’s a player to watch moving forward.
Tim Broom – Douglas County
Douglas County is not off of the start of the season as they expected but Sr. point guard Tim Broom has been a nice revelation for the team. Even in a loss, he was able to get going as he finished with a team-high 24 points against one of the top teams in the state in Eaglecrest. To begin the season he is having a great start as he is putting up 15.0 points 6.8 rebounds and also has 5.2 assists to go along with it. If he is able to keep up these types of games against the top teams he should also be able to get going when league play starts as well.
Reece Kelly – Mountain Vista
Combo-guard Reece Kelly is off to a terrific start as Mountain Vista remains undefeated on the season. In their close 72-68 win over Dakota Ridge, he led the way as he finished with 20 points on 5-9 shooting. He had his shot going as he went 4-5 from beyond the arc and he also hit six free throws. Kelly has been one of the biggest surprises in his senior season as he is up to 18.7 points and also is averaging eight rebounds a game as well. Mountain Vista has been riding their guard to each victory and he continues to deliver.
Cole Bowen – Rampart
Bowen from Rampart is a player that we have not yet got the chance to see but looking at his stats he seems to be having a season worth taking a look at. He put up 21 points against Vista Ridge and has been leading the way to the 2-2 team. We are going to make it a point to take a look at him as the season progresses but he will surely be on our radars as he continues to have high-scoring games that leads to wins.
Lian Ramiro – Grandview
Grandview isn’t a team that is going to blow teams out of the water as they are a slower-paced team that focuses on defense but with Caleb McGill and Lian Ramiro taking most of the shots, they are bound to have good games. While McGill takes over in the middle, it was Ramiro who got going from deep as he had the best shooting game of his career. Ramiro helped Grandview knock off one of the top teams in 4A in Lincoln high school as he was his usual self. He controlled the offense, he got the team in their sets and made things happen but he also knocked down seven 3-pointers to finish with 23 points on the night. With him knocking down shots consistently and a top big man in the state inside abusing teams this is the perfect 1-2 punch. They have the game bottled up with an inside-outside game and it was Ramiro’s day on Tuesday as he stood out with his jump shot. He will have to stay in this takeover mode if Grandview has any shot of getting back to the championship game that he helped them get to two seasons ago.
Isaiah Thompson – Fountain Fort-Carson
Thompson is quickly becoming one of the standout players in Colorado Springs as he is outing together an incredible season early on and in Tuesday’s game, he had the best game of his career. The do-it-all forward did everything that he could as he finished with a stat line of 28 points and 20 rebounds as one of the most incredible games this season there was only one thing – it came in a loss. He will need others to help him, especially when he has everything going for him. His inside double-double wasn’t enough to get the win but if he could keep these types of games up then he will surely be making a name for himself and having the Trojans as a team to watch moving forward as well.
