Held at five sites sprawled across the San Diego region, the tournament attracts teams large and small from across the country competing for one of five divisional titles.
Here were some of the standouts from the final day of the Tournament:
Hayden Gray, Santa Fe Christian
The crafty point guard was dominant in a 31-point, 10-rebound performance in a win over Sonora. He scored in the paint, off the mid-range pull-up and his shot from three looked feathery. Against a highly regarded point-guard Daniel Esparza, Gray looked every bit the part of a sleeper D1 prospect.
Keatten Smith, 2021 G, Santa Fe Christian
The sharpshooter scored from all three levels in the big win over Sonora. Smith’s development scoring in the paint has been noteworthy this year, and makes him a more well-rounded scoring threat.
Elijah Price, 2021 F, St. Anthony
Named MVP of the Senator’s Division, Price’s rim protection and rebounding were on display. A 6-6 junior with a 7-foot wingspan, Price alters the game both as a rim protector and a position defender in St. Anthony’s run-and-jump defense. Once his offensive skills round out, Price will be a definite sleeper in Southern California.
Steve Stinson, G, San Diego
Just as his team started to slip against San Joaquin Memorial, Stinson hit five threes in a span of four minutes to surge the Cavers ahead. The Panthers wound up winning the game, but Stinson gave a glimpse of his prolific scoring and shooting ability when he gets hot. NAIA/ D2 schools would be worth investing in him.
Cameron Moran, 2020 PG, Start
Another sleeper prospect from the Toledo team, Moran plays with tremendous pace, is an excellent game manager and can score it from three levels. Defensively, he is yet another one of a stable of guards on the team who pick up full court and make things difficult for opposing guards.
