Continue ReadingThe 2020 class of high school basketball players in Nebraska is littered with talent at all levels across the state. The class already features multiple commits at the D1, D2, and NAIA levels. Here’s a list of a handful of the top uncommitted prospects still looking for a college home going into this season.
Latrell Wrightsell Jr: 6’2 Guard (Omaha Central/OSA Gauntlet)- Known mostly for his ability as a three and D guard, Wrightsell has always been a standout defender, usually drawing the assignment of the best scorer on the opposing team. While he is likely the best on-ball defender in the 2020 class, he can shoot the ball with the best of them as well. Wrightsell is also incredibly quick, and when he’s not spotting up from outside, he can most certainly take a defender off the dribble and get to the basket with relative ease. Look for Latrell to be a top 3 scorer in the state this year, with a good chance he could lead the state by season’s end. Wrightsell has spent quite a bit of time in the weight room this summer and looks bigger than he did at the end of the last high school season.
Wal Chuol: 6’4 Guard (Omaha North/Omaha Elite)- Chuol is a lengthy guard, who’s got a multi-faceted game where he shows strength in many phases. Offensively he is just plain smooth at all 3 levels. His go-to is most certainly his three-point shot, but he is very quick of the dribble and can be extra crafty with the ball when he wants to be. Chuol is also one of the longer guards in the state of Nebraska and uses his wingspan to his advantage on the defensive end. His season is off to a good start leading his Omaha North Vikings to the championship game of the OPS Jamboree Tournament, including a 20 point effort on 7-11 shooting in an upset victory over defending state champions Omaha South.
Justin Bubak: 6’5 Guard/Forward (Lincoln Christian/Lincoln Supreme National)- Bubak just may be the most versatile uncommitted prospect in the 2020 class. In a world where positionless basketball is becoming more and more prominent, Bubak has been able to find many roles for himself to fill both during high school and summer ball seasons in his career. He is not afraid to go crash the boards, as well as using his athleticism to his advantage on both ends of the floor. Bubak is more than capable of scoring at all three levels and will look to help lead Lincoln Christian to the state tournament to close out his storied career as a Crusader.
Max Polk: 6’1 Guard (Omaha Central/OSA Gauntlet)- Thanks to an offseason broken hand, Polk was sidelined for the OSA Fall League, but is back healthy for the start of the Eagles campaign to get back to Lincoln. Polk has been getting varsity minutes since his freshman year. Polk is just about all you could ask for in a point guard, he’s crafty with his passes, has great court vision, and can take defenders off the dribble when need be. Polk’s biggest strength offensively is most certainly his midrange game where he has a wide assortment of floaters, pull up jumpers, and moves off the dribble in his arsenal. Though his Eagles did not take home the state title last year, Polk may have played the best basketball of his career in the Eagles state tournament run and will look to build off of it to begin the new campaign.
