Continue ReadingNorth Jersey is filled with talented teams and players. The Patrick School and Roselle Catholic are both top 25 teams, while Bergen Catholic is looking to repeat as Non-Public A champions. Elizabeth and Newark East Side are two of the top public schools in New Jersey, capable of making deep postseason runs. All the top teams in North Jersey have elite shooters that change the complexion of the game. Here are some of the top shooters from North Jersey.
CJ Wilcher, 6’5 SG Roselle Catholic 2020
The Xavier commit is arguably the top shooter in New Jersey. He has a smooth looking stroke and a quick release to get shots up in a hurry. Wilcher rarely forces three-pointers in the halfcourt and understands how to read screens. His range starts once he steps into the gym and is capable of knocking down three-pointers in bunches. Wilcher’s ability to catch fire from behind the arc could be the key for Roselle Catholic’s postseason success.
Justin Glover, 6’2 SG Hudson Catholic 2021
Glover is not as well known as sophomore Zion Cruz, but he is a much better shooter than him. His range starts from inside halfcourt and understands how to find space for himself. Glover is also capable of shooting the ball off the dribble, which will come in handy when he has to run the offense. He can run a little hot or cold at times, which limits his ability to affect the game at times. When Glover is on, Hudson Catholic is a force to be reckoned with in North Jersey.
Sean Dillon, 5’10 PG New Providence 2020
Dillon may be seen as more of a passer, but he is a marksman from behind the arc. The Seton Hill commit excels at shooting the ball off the dribble, but he is also capable of spotting up on the perimeter. His release is lightning quick, which he has to have for being only 5’10. Dillon had eight games last season with at least 3 three-pointers, so he can fill it up from behind the arc. New Providence is looking to get back to the Tournament of Champions and will need Dillon to continue his work from behind the arc.
Matt Zona, 6’9 PF Bergen Catholic 2020
The Notre Dame commit may not have the same type of range as the other players on this list, but he is still an elite shooter. Zona has a clean shooting stroke and a relatively quick release for a player his size. He rarely forces contested three-pointers, despite having a significant height advantage over his competition. Zona also understands how to properly space the floor on the perimeter, making him an ideal stretch-4. Bergen Catholic is primed for another run at the Tournament of Champions behind Zona’s perimeter shooting.
Denver Anglin, 6’0 PG Gill St. Bernard’s 2022
Princeton commit Zach Martini was also considered as an option, but his sophomore teammate is a deadlier weapon from deep. Anglin has one of the nicest looking forms in the state and has a very quick release. His range starts from inside the halfcourt line and is unafraid of taking the big shot late in the game. Most of his attempts from behind the arc came from catch-and-shoot opportunities as he played off the ball from current Rutgers guard Paul Mulcahy. Gill St. Bernard’s need Anglin to be able to shoot off the dribble if the Knights want to make the Non-Public B North final again this season.
