It looked like it was going to be an easy win for the home team with a 20-6 lead late in the first quarter, but Largo went on a 26-7 run to lead 32-27 at the break. Countryside eventually put the game away midway through the third quarter despite the valiant fight from the Packers.
Here is a look at the top performers from the night.
Mikey Shane (Countryside)
When Countryside needed a spark in the second half, it was 2021 6’1″ guard Mikey Shane (17 points) that got his side going. With just three points to his name at the half, he found his groove in the third quarter with nine points including four free throws in a row. Shane is a tough guard who is a superb ballhandler and someone who settles things down for everyone around him. He was clutch when Countryside was looking for a way to regain momentum.
Stevmoney Medires (Largo)
With a game-high 27 points, 2021 Largo guard/forward Stevmoney Mendaries was everything and more for the Packers in this tilt. He had 14 points at the break and seemed to be all over the glass, putting back misses and finishing on feeds from his guards. Mendaries performed admirably for a shorthanded Largo group that was missing its top piece in 2021 forward Owen Robinson, who dislocated his shoulder in the opening game last week against Santa Fe Catholic.
Noah Tran (Countryside)
Transferring in from Palm Harbor this year, 2020 5’10” guard Noah Tran has made an instant impact for Countryside. He netted 15 points on five 3’s including a trio of them in the third quarter. He is a gifted outside shooter and with this fast pace offense, he’s able to be open more often than not. Tran was hitting from the corners including right in front of the Countryside student section in that breakout third quarter.
Anthony Bittar & EJ Hubbert (Countryside)
Former Oldsmar Christian duo, 2021 guards Anthony Bittar and EJ Hubbert each scored eight points in the second half. Bittar had 13 points including a pair of high flying dunks in the second half. He also had a very good tough lay-in that sparked his side in the fourth quarter. Hubbert was very impressive around the basket with his mid-range touch and attacking ability. The pair feed off one another well and settled in nicely as the game grew on.
Adrian Moss & Andre Bell (Largo)
Largo got a lot out of 2023 guard Adrian Moss and 2020 guard Andre Bell. Moss was very reliable from deep in key situations, finishing with 11 points including three 3’s. He was able to find open spots and strike. Bell is a tough minded guard who plays a forward role with his strength. He had nine points and got inside for some hard fought buckets.
