Continue ReadingJaxson Robinson walks into the Shawnee High School gymnasium. It has been 6 months since playing in the 2019 Peach Jam Finals with Team Griffin. To him, this game proves another chance to grow and become the best basketball player he can be. Robinson has seen gyms with 50 parents to standing room gyms with over 5,000 people watching. His nerves are nonexistent. It is just another opportunity to go out and play the game he loves.
Robinson, #2 in our Oklahoma player rankings, is showing his growth since the summer through his development as a leader for the Ada Cougars. It has been apparent to Robinson how imperative it has become for him to grow in this role and develop the qualities of a leader.
“This Ada group has really shown me how to grow and become a better leader. I continue to work on myself while at the same time making sure I keep my teammates together and focused.”
These developments have also been apparent in other parts of his game, not just his shooting.
“I’ve definitely been looking to improve on my ball-handling,” said Robinson. “Being able to attack my defender downhill is also very important to me.”

These two facets of his game were very much obvious in Ada’s matchup with Shawnee last Friday night. Robinson was the primary ball-handler for Ada and was very successful at attacking downhill. He had two great driving layups and multiple assists on dump downs. If Robinson can add this and make it a consistent part of his game, expect his impact on the college level to become much more significant.
Robinson stressed heavily the impact his family has made on his recruitment process and how important they are to his decision making.
“My family has really made sure I keep an open mind and look at all my options through pros and cons,” he said. “They just want to make sure I make the best decision possible.”
Robinson has received offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, UT Arlington, Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M, Tulsa, Arkansas, and Houston. He has not cut that list down and his recruitment is still wide open.
This season will really prove Robinson’s game in the mental aspect of being a leader. Expect his Ada team and coaching staff to bring out the best in him. Robinson’s basketball career can be as long as he makes it to be, it is up to him put the effort in to make it happen.
