Whether it was a sensational performance from Hackensack’s Seth Sharif-Brown or Paterson Eastside’s Levi Holton, the tournament concluded on Sunday with St. Peter’s Prep defeating Hackensack 61-54. The showdown showcased some of the best North Jersey has to offer. Who stood out during the Sunday championship?
Seth Sharif-Brown – Senior – Guard
If there was a singular player that capitalized on the opportunity to make an early-season statement, it was none other than Hackensack’s Seth Sharif-Brown. The electric guard that has good size, an advanced scoring repertoire, and strong rebounding skills put it all together during the Jingle Bells Jubilee tournament.
While St. Peter’s Prep slowed down Sharif-Brown down a bit as he scored and rebounded below his averages in the Finals (13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists), the senior guard still showed more than enough and remains one of the best guards in all of New Jersey.
William White – Senior – Point Guard
With the emergence of Armstrong, Senior guard William White has played more of a complementary role to start the season; however, in big games, it’s always best to lean on your upperclassmen leaders who have been in big games before. White was a significant factor throughout the contest, and his ability to get to the line and make free throws (nine) was essential to giving St. Peter’s the edge over Hackensack.
White would ultimately score 16 points, three rebounds, and two assists along with three steals that helped St. Peter’s win a prominent early-season game.
Mark Armstrong – Sophomore – Point Guard
Perhaps the player with the most upside playing in the championship game was St. Peter’s Mark Armstrong. Listed at 6’3, 165 pounds, Armstrong is an excellent floor general who will be a handful in the coming years as he continues to grow into his frame. It was Armstrong’s poise and ability to never get rattled that helped St. Peter’s secure the victory. Armstrong’s 16 points, two rebounds, and three assists were vital and a glimpse into his future stardom.
