McLain seemed to find their range a little bit in the second as they knocked down some deep threes, but Memorial’s offense answered right back with even more firepower. Memorial to a commanding 41-14 lead into the halftime break. The Chargers did more of the same in the second half as they cruised to a 70-27 victory over the Tulsa McLain Titans.
Takeaways from Tonight
Run and Gun for Memorial
Tulsa Memorial was at its best when they were causing chaos. They put a lot of pressure on the backcourt of McLain and forced them into turnovers. McLain was out of sorts because of the Chargers’ ability to turn them over. Once they turned them over, the Chargers were in their zone. Their transition offense was on point and looked to be unstoppable as they even brought down the house with some thunderous dunks.
Young Depth
Memorial’s early big lead gave them the opportunity to showcase some of its young talent off of the bench. Players like Ty Frierson, a 2022 Guard, and Seth Pratt, 2023 Guard, were able to show their abilities. They looked comfortable and confident on the court as they forced turnovers, knocked down shots, and found the open man. Pratt finished the night with 3 points while Frierson finished the night with a game high 16 points.
Players to Know
Kavon Key 2020 Tulsa Memorial Guard
Key was his normal dominant self tonight. He played tough on both sides of the ball. He forced turnovers on defense with his length and athletic ability. He showed excellent vision to be able to find the open man and when called upon he knocked down tough shots. His shot making ability was complemented by his ability to drive to the rim. He forced the defense to pick their poison with whether he drove to the bucket or let him spot up from deep. Key finished the night with 13 points.
Brayshawn Finch 2020 Tulsa Memorial Guard
Finch was good at getting the Chargers into their offense when the game slowed down but he was also good in transition. He displayed great vision and athleticism while on the break. He would find the open man if he could not get to the rim and at times he even reached into his bag of tricks to beat his man to get the easy two. He finished the night with 14 points.
Jaelen Tucker 2021 Tulsa Memorial Post
Tucker was dominant down low against McLain. The Titans did not have an answer to size and muscle. He was fluid in his post moves and he even got a few highlight reel type dunks against the Titans. Tucker was dominant on the boards on both sides of the ball using his size to get the box out that led to easy boards. He finished the night with 10 points.
Kejuan McCall Tulsa McLain Guard
McCall was the bright spot for Tulsa McLain on the night. McCall had almost half of the points for the Titans tonight and showed a lot of promise. He had some smooth handles that helped him get out of some sticky situations. He also showed off a jumper that was dangerous if he was left open. He also had a pretty decent range from beyond the arc as he knocked down some deep three balls today. He finished the night with 13 points
