Dylan DeChampeau of Greenway. Dylan is one of the state’s top all around athletes recently signing on to play football at Minnesota-Duluth, he’s ran at the state track meet, and he’s one of the top all time active scorers in Minnesota. Last night Dylan led Greenway to a three point win over Deer River but recording a double-double highlighted by his 31 points. DeChampeau made three threes for Greenway showing his range.
Gabe Madsen of Rochester Mayo. The Mayo Spartans continued their undefeated season with a 105-78 win last night over Winona. Gabe – who is signed with Cincinnati – exploded for 43 points and ten rebounds in the win while brother Mason scored 31 points. Gabe knocked out four threes and attacked the rim for much of the rest. The Mayo Spartans have a big Rotary Tournament game coming up with Lake City two days after Christmas.
Agwa Nywesh of Austin. Agwa led Austin to a 70-46 win over JM last night with Nywesh exploding for 36 points! Agwa attempted seven threes and showed his range by making five plus he hit five of six foul shots. Nywesh’s wide open attacking also resulted in transition baskets on his way to a 13 of 18 shooting night. Nywesh is certainly a D1 caliber player ranking with the best available seniors in the state.
Calvin Sisk of Rockford. Rockford improved to 7-0 last night with a win over Big Lake and Minot State committed seven footer Calvin Sisk led the way with 22 points, double figure rebounds, and a number of blocks. Rockford is 7-0 and they have a big pair of games at the Granite City Classic coming up after the holidays (Princeton and Cristo Rey).
Jalen Suggs of Minnehaha Academy. Before fouling out Jalen Suggs was at his best scoring 40 points including four threes and several attacking buckets of all varieties. Last night Suggs was as driven as you will see which is why he was chasing down boards with a ferocity and agility that few players have. Add that every board or steal was turned into a rapid transition leading to the 40 points on 12 of 24 shooting with 12 of 19 foul shooting, 14 boards, four steals, four assists, and four blocks.
Kerwin Walton of Hopkins. Kerwin had a rough first half getting into foul trouble and only scoring once. He made up for everything in the second half by putting together a double-double of 29 points and 13 boards. Kerwin put the game away at the foul line (10 of 12 foul shooting), he put Hopkins ahead with his three threes in about three minutes, and then went at Minnehaha defenders for 29 points on 8 of 17 shooting.
