Rayshun McCullar Rayshun McCullar 6'1" | PG Huntington | 2022 State LA / PG / 6’1″ / 2022 / Huntington
McCullar was his usual self this week. He averaged double digits in scoring and had five to seven assists per game. The only difference is this was a 4-1 week for the Raiders which included wins over Walker and Madison Prep. McCullar consistently hit his mid-range jumper against opponents like Newman and Madison Prep. He played under control and was not rattled by any pressure thrown at him by either team. His performance during the Showdown in the Lake (hosted by Hamilton Christian) tournament earned him this place in the starting 5. McCullar displayed that he can play the point and score when needed.
Chance Williams / CG / 5’9″ / 2020 / Booker T. Washington (S’port)
Williams was an integral part of the Lions going 4-0 last week. His ability to make shots in critical situations was key in the Lions win over 1-5A Southwood. Williams three at the buzzer to send the game to overtime was part of a 16 point second half and overtime. His ability to shoot makes him dangerous in all areas of the frontcourt. He can also spell the primary point guard to help when fouls are an issue. One thing is for sure, from 23 feet in, Williams has to be accounted for. He is a shooter who is not afraid of the moment.
Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL / W / 6’5″ / 2022 / Calvary Baptist
The Cavs might have only had one game last week, but it was an impressive win over Benton. What was impressive was how sophomore Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL took over the game. With senior D’Marcus Hall D’Marcus Hall 6'5" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2020 State LA having some struggles from the floor, Williams stepped to the forefront. At one point during the 2nd quarter, Williams scored 12 of the 16 points the Cavs had during that stretch. He scored from behind the arc, driving to the cup within the offensive scheme, and on the fast break. The variations in which he can score the ball were on full display. Williams is one of the sophomores to watch in Louisiana. He may be one of the best by the time graduation comes.
Kenny Hunter Kenny Hunter 6'10" | C Huntington | 2020 State LA / F / 6’9″ / 2020 / Huntington
Hunter may have had one of his more impressive stretches of play during his career at the Showdown in the Lake. He was virtually unstoppable in the paint whether it was scoring or rebounding. Hunter displayed the talent to handle the ball in the open floor as well as make big to big passes from the high post. When he was on the low block, Hunter scored over his left shoulder repetitively. He also picked up his effort rebounding which helped the Raiders control the paint and possessions. Hunter was on fire and showed why Louisiana Tech signed him in November.
D’Ante Bell / F / 6’8″ / 2020 / Bossier
Bell has probably had his best stretch of consistent play since he was a freshman at Bossier. There are games where he has taken himself out of the equation due to technicals or fouls. During the Showdown in the Lake, he made more talk with his play. He was a post force in the Bossier win over Scotlandville. During the Bearkat victory over Landry-Walker, he ran the floor, rebounded the ball, and changed shots. He was the offensive focal point at certain points during the tournament and showed he could handle the load. If Bell continues to play this way, he will be helping Bossier hoist a trophy in March.
Cracking the starting 5 was tough this week. Players like Cody Deen Cody Deen 5'9" | PG Bossier | 2020 State LA , Jalen Cook Jalen Cook 6'0" | PG Walker | 2020 State #98 Nation LA , and Darrien Perry Darrien Perry 6'1" | PG Plain Dealing | 2021 State LA had superb weeks in their respective tournament performances. However, we have a new week and plenty of tournament action to see. So we will see who makes the next edition of the Starting 5.
