Jordan Jones (5’9 2020 G, Columbia Heights)- Columbia Heights had the chance to prove themselves against a quality opponent in Hibbing, and it was Jordan Jones who had a big performance to help them come away with the win. The lightning quick guard put up 28 points, using his quickness to blow by defenders and finish on floaters in the lane. Jordan was also able to get out in transition to score, beating all of the Hibbing defenders up the floor. Through four games he’s averaging 21.2 ppg.
Kaden Doram (6’2 2021 G, St. Paul Central)- St. Paul Central lost most of their varsity roster to graduation, but a key piece stepping up from JV has been Kaden Doram. At 6’2 he has solid size at the guard spot, and he’s a freak athlete who showcased that by rising up for a poster dunk to start off the game. From there-on-out he was in attack mode, getting to the basket at will and finishing at a high rate. He would add another dunk late in the game as he finished with 25 points, and added 2 blocks in the process.
Julian Hodges (5’11 2021 G, St. Paul Johnson)- Though it came in a losing effort, Julian Hodges put in a strong performance for Johnson. Hodges found a lot of success getting to the hoop in the half court, using his quick first step to get by his man. He was also a pest on the defensive end, coming up with a handful of steals, with multiple of those leading to him scoring in transition. Hodges also knocked down a pair of threes on his way to 25 points.
Langston Binns (6’2 2020 G, Tartan)- Binns is continuing his breakout senior season, and after scoring 18 points in Tartan’s win over Robbinsdale Cooper, he is now averaging 17.2 ppg through four games. Binns is a bruiser of a guard who can bully defenders around the rim with his strength. Finishing through contact is no problem for him. Langston also has a nice stroke from outside, allowing him to knock down threes when the defense gives him too much space.
Henry Abraham (5’11 2020 G, Cambridge-Isanti)- Henry Abraham put in a an absolutely ridiculous scoring performance on Saturday, knocking down 13 threes on his way to a 50 point game. Henry has such a quick release on his jumper, and he always catches the ball with his feet squared to the basket and his hands ready to shoot. Cambridge-Isanti has only played three games, but after his performance at the Southside Showcase, Henry leads the state in scoring average at 43.7 a game.
Nick Peterson (6’5 2020 W, Benilde-St. Margaret’s)- Minnehaha came away with the win, but it was Nick Peterson who left spectators impressed with his play. The crafty wing showed no fear going at the Minnehaha talent, using an array of pumpfakes and crafty footwork to get looks at all three levels. He finished around the rim, pulled up from mid-range, and knocked down outside shots on his way to 25 points. Nick is as tough as nails on the court, and that showed in his unwavering attack despite facing constant attention from the Minnehaha defense and jarring from the student section.
Tre Holloman (6’2 2022 PG, Cretin-Derham Hall)- 20 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. That was the statline Tre Holloman put up in a big win over Spring Lake Park. His 20 points were scored in a variety of ways, using basket attacks, fast break chances, and outside jumpers on his way to a 9-16 shooting performance. Most impressive were his passes however. Looking back at the film, the way he threw a no-look alley oop pass to Amari Carter from halfcourt was something I’ve never seen before. Between that and threading the needle to cutters without even needing to look, Tre put in some highlight worthy passes.
