Yonge Blue Wave bounced back after a tough loss to Gainesville earlier in the week, beating Eastside High 55-44 behind a 2021-duo that combined for half of their points. On the other end, the reigning Gainesville Sun Player of the Year hit double-digits for the Rams. Check out the top names from the night.
Christian Norman – P.K. Yonge 2021: The wing-man led all scorers with 16 points as he started the game knocking down a pair of treys. Norman was patient with his drives, waiting for lanes to open up before attacking the rim and finishing at the rim with hands draped on him. Defensively, he doesn’t mind putting his body on the line. He stepped in and took a crucial charge in the fourth quarter which riled up the bench. Reserved in personality, but he has the DOG in him on the court.
K.J. Bradley – Eastside 2020: Korin made his presence felt from the tip, nabbing 11 of his 14 points in the first half. He is a true two-guard, and has a great deal of length, on him. It seemed like he could get to his spots at any moment & make a play at the rim. In-comparison to last season, he appears leaner and he’s a lot stronger with the ball as he’s coming down-hill. Look for him to be the offensive leader for the Rams, and make a push towards the Player of the Year convo, again.
Yarnell McCray – P.K. Yonge 2021: Thinking of last year, the junior guard has probably made the biggest leap of any Blue Wave hooper, this season. He’s playing as if he trusts his game, more. He loves the corner three, can splash it under pressure. He finished the first half with a walk-off, buzzer-beater trey. McCray is getting better at drawing contact on the drive, earned a tough and-one lay early in the first quarter. He finished the game with 11 points.
Aziel Gainey – Eastside 2021: Although he stands at 5’9”, he gave one of the hardest efforts on the floor for the Rams, earning 10 points in the process. The junior knocked down a couple threes, but defensively is where he shined. Gainey earned a couple of strips on the night, and rose high for a swat at the rim that woke up the crowd. Love the energy he’s bringing to Eastside.
Danny Dawson – P.K. Yonge 2020: This guy is definitely a fan favorite. Dawson scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter, proving he has range after hitting a deep trey from the wing, and taking defenders off the dribble for the lay. I’ve said it before, but he really is the team’s X-Factor. His energy on the rebounding glass frustrates opponents. Dawson does a great job at making the right pass at the right time, as well.
