The Basketball Interview with Kobe Busch
Kobe Busch of Huron is the best guard/wing in South Dakota’s senior class. Before the season tips off PHD caught up with Busch for The Basketball Interview.
Prep Hoops: What are your first memories of basketball becoming something you love and a big part of your life?
Kobe Busch: As far back as I can remember I’ve always been in the gym with my dad or brother, as it being a part of my life give been playing competitive basketball since kindergarten.
PH: What is your pregame ritual on game day?
I sit in front of my locker and listen to my secret song that I play before I head out to the court.
PH: Who is your favorite college or professional player to watch? And to learn from (if different)?
I don’t really have a favorite player but I love Jason Williams game because he can see the floor and could pass like no other.
PH: Do you enjoy the NBA and if so, what teams do you regularly watch?
I don’t really have a favorite team but I try and catch any games that are on.
PH: If you could play on any court in the world, what court would you pick and why?
The Garden because there’s just so much history on court.
PH: Who is your team’s biggest rival in basketball and what makes that rivalry special?
Mitchell because they are only 50 miles away and every time we play them the games are always intense and the crowd is rowdy also.
PH: When you are off the floor, what is your favorite hobby to take part in?
My favorite hobby is hunting and fishing.
PH: The best sports movie of all time is? And best non sports move?
I would have to say Coach Carter and then Step Brothers.
PH: At this point in your basketball life what has been the most memorable moment, or moments?
The most memorable moment was the Watertown game last year because it was so close the whole game and then came to the last second and we won on a buzzer beater to get to state.
PH: How do players in your community support and relate to the young and up and coming players? In other words, what do you guys do to support the youth hoopers in your area?
We help out with basketball camps, show them drills. We also ref and scorekeep when they have tournaments.
PH: What is the best advice that you’ve received in life?
The best advice I’ve received “ is that what have I done today to make myself a better person, athlete, and student”.
PH: What makes basketball in South Dakota different? And what makes it special?
What makes it special in South Dakota is that dudes can flat out play. Every game is intense and the crowds are always into the games which makes it fun to play in.
