Is one of the most prestigious high school basketball tournament for Northern California. 8 team guaranteed 3 games. Prep Hoops NorCal was there for 2 days. Here’s my take for game 1, of 4 games on day two of this event.
Capital Christian 62, St Patrick/ St Vincent (Vallejo) 54
MVP Darrion Williams 6’6 2022
The wing lead the way with 17pts, 7 rebs, and 3 blocks. Williams has proven he can be as effective playing the wings as well as on the block. He’s a legitimate inside/out prospect. A good ball handler with court vision.
Best Offensive Player:
Jaden Alexander 6’4 2021 wing:
This prospect from ST Pats/ St Vin is starting to get more attention with his play. The athletic wing is having a good early season and is putting up impressive numbers so far. 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 stls. He runs the floor well, and is impressive with his athletic body controlled finishes to go with a few dunks along the way.
Best Defender
Caden Flowers 5’11 2021 point guard. I think any coach would want Flowers on his team. He’s a team player and a leader. He was assigned to guard the top guards in this tournament and he performed excellent. He held them below their scoring average and made them uncomfortable for most of the game.
Best Off The Bench
Tariq Johnson 6’0 2022 guard
Johnson provided solid play coming off the bench for this team. He moves with good speed, can handle the ball, and he gets it to the right players, he’s a good ball mover and he fed the post pretty well. He’s active on the defensive end, and played solid defense. 8 points, 4 rebounds, and a good looking shooting form.
Best Intangibles
Mekhi Morris 5’9 2021 point guard
Morris would be a starter on most teams. He’s a solid ball handler, he’s an above average defender, and he’s as competitive as anyone on the court.
Best Under The Radar
Sione’ Lose’ 6’4 combo guard
I haven’t seen him play every game, but the games I see him, he always plays well. He’s an effective prospect that can play this game, and can contribute in different ways. He can shoot the 3 pointer, he’ll finish around the basket, he doesn’t turn the ball over, or make a lot of mistakes. He’s long enough to be effective in both defense and rebounding. 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Best Underclassman
Darrion Williams 6’6 2022 was also my MVP. He can be looked at as a point forward if he continues to play and develop his game on the wings and at the top. He has good court vision and his shot is improving.
Best Rebounder
Kendall Taylor 6’5 2020 power forward
Taylor is undersized, this team is heavily dependent on him to get rebounds. He often has to guard bigger players in the post, but he’s strong and moves good. 9 rebounds and 9 points.
