Continue ReadingThe Santa Fe Raiders put away the Buchholz Bobcats on their home-floor on Tuesday night, 58-44. The guard play for the Raiders really showed up on the offensive and defensive end, but a guy we have ranked fifth in the class of 2021 definitely made his presence felt. Check out some of the standouts from the in-county showdown.
Ernest Ross – Santa Fe 2021: This 6’9” slim-forward has potential to be a real steal of the recruiting scene, in Florida. Ross can weave through the D in-transition and finish strong at the rim, ending up with 14 points on the night. In the half-court, Ross can get to his spots with a few dribbles & pull-up from mid-range. He does a great job at getting into the trenches for rebounds. One thing that stood out, his game doesn’t seem forced. Ross does a good job at surveying the court from the elbow, and seeing who may be open or cutting for quick scores.
Colsen Orth – Buchholz 2021: One thing I love about this guy is his hard-nosed attitude on the floor. No possession, whether he’s on offense with the ball or on the defensive end, is an easy one when he’s on the floor. Orth can hit the trey from the wing, and earn tough putbacks after the offensive rebound. He scored a team-high 11 points, on Tuesday.
Cayvian Wakeley – Santa Fe 2021: The quiet-attacker Wakeley led all scorers with 15 points due to some great work penetrating the paint. He starts and ends games really well, earning six points in the first quarter, and five in the final. The junior is solid at drawing contact, while FINISHING with that contact. Love the tenactiy he brings. Could see him being a pivotal piece to the Raiders success, this year.
Josiah Jones – Santa Fe 2020: Listen, this man was ALL-HUSTLE from start to finish, on Tuesday. The senior guard’s signature play came when he ran the floor to strip a Bobcat dribbler at the opposite free-throw line. He recovered, and took it the distance for a layup on two other ‘Cats. He shot 5-of-7 from the stripe, had a great block at the rim which sparked a fast-break. He finished with nine, but a well-earned nine.
Daylin Norman – Buchholz: Norman did his damage solely in the second half, notching seven points off of some tough drives through the hole and getting to the free-throw line. The energy he provides at the guard spot is going to be needed for the ‘Cats, all year. Would love to see him develop his J, more, but you can’t ignore how he works to get his buckets at the rim.
